Woman Checks In On Toddler And Starts Recording When She Realizes Rescue Dog's Napping Beside Her

If you own a pet, you probably remember the terrifying feeling that occurs when you can’t find them. Dogs are notorious for running away and slipping out the door every chance they get, and cats may not turn up for days if they get outside or under the furniture.

One woman named Kristin Leigh Rhynehart knows this feeling all too well. The Raleigh, New Jersey native lives in a comfortable home with her family as well as with their beloved rescue dog Raven.  And one day, she couldn't find Raven — until, that is, she looked in her daughter's room. Luckily, Kristin captured the touching moment on video, uploading it to her YouTube channel in 2015.

According to the video's YouTube description, Raven was adopted from a shelter over a decade ago, and it seems like his family is grateful for making that choice each and every day — particularly given how sweet this pup seems! Raven brings joy and optimism to the family with his loyalty and affection. But despite their routine life together, Raven still has a few surprises up his sleeve.

Kristin was probably doing tasks around her home one day when she suddenly realized that Raven was missing. Despite checking most spots around the home — such as the family room, the kitchen, and other areas that Raven enjoyed — he was nowhere to be found. Panic might have set in as Kristin might have believed Raven had run away from home. Did she leave Raven in the yard unattended? Or did Raven sneak out when no one was looking?

Even after checking the yard, the mysterious dog still didn’t turn up. Kristin writes on YouTube: "That moment you can't find your dog and you even go outside looking for him..." All of this went down while Kristin’s young toddler, Addison, was taking a nap. It was likely one of the only spots left to check for Raven, so Kristin ventured into her daughter’s room.

Kristin could have never expected the adorable surprise she was about to witness. Addison was sleeping in her crib comfortably, but she wasn’t alone. Raven was happily tucked in with the young girl, fast asleep and dreaming peacefully under the covers. Thankfully, Kristin recorded the cute scene so that she could share with others on YouTube. Although she probably only expected her friends and family to watch it, the video now has more than 6 million views!

"People that say 'money can't buy happiness' have never paid an adoption fee," Kristin writes on YouTube. "10 years ago I left a rescue with this little guy and I often wonder...who rescued who? I gave him a home, but he gave me so, so much more."

Most organizations agree with Kristin. Rescuing animals — rather than purchasing them from breeders — is often a better choice for multiple reasons. As The Humane Society of the United States points out, it's incredibly important to adopt animals simply because there are too many animals and not enough owners willing to rescue them. Unfortunately, that's why shelters euthanize more than one million dogs and cats every year in the United States. There simply isn't enough space for them in the shelters.

While that is perhaps the most important reason to rescue an animal rather than purchasing from a breeder, The Humane Society also notes that rescuing animals is often cheaper. They explain that when you adopt an animal from a shelter, the shelter will often cover the cost of spaying/neutering, vaccinating, and (occasionally) microchipping your pet.

Finally, Kristin's story just goes to show that it's not as if shelter dogs are any less loving than puppies you might buy at a pet store. Not only did Kristin give Raven a better life, likely saving him from staying in a shelter or euthanasia, but she also gained a loving, trustworthy member of the family. And for that reason, the below video is proof that rescuing animals makes the world a better place — for everyone.

Others are marveling at the adorable sight, and it's no surprise after you see the video for yourself. Kristin felt more thankful than ever to have adopted such a loving dog.
