Woman Calls Out Pregnant SIL After She Says Her Unborn Baby Is Already Making Life 'Miserable'

Becoming a parent is a personal choice, and it’s one that definitely isn’t for everyone. While some people are excited about the idea of bringing a new person into the world and watching them grow up right before their eyes, others want a life without that big responsibility so they can focus on their other responsibilities. Being a parent is hard work and takes a lot of time, money, effort and patience.

While everyone’s journey into parenthood is different, more times often than not, they are celebrated. This was not the case for one Reddit user’s sister-in-law named Laurel. While the rest of the family was completely over the moon at the fact that Laurel was pregnant, Laurel herself was not particularly thrilled. Even though she and her husband had planned the pregnancy and were old enough to tackle all of the challenges and responsibilities that would soon be thrown their way, the pregnant woman was already miserable at just preparing for her baby girl to finally be born.

From fixing up the nursery to buying clothes and toys, Laurel was already annoyed with having to get everything perfectly prepared for her baby’s arrival, and made sure to let the rest of the family know just how miserable she was. However, the Reddit user had had enough of her sister-in-law’s constant complaining and finally spoke her mind, resulting in a huge fallout between her, her brother and Laurel. She went to Reddit on Aug. 25, 2021, to ask users for advice on what she could do to fix the situation so she could one day be a part of her niece’s life.

Starting off her Reddit post, the original poster (OP) explained that her brother married Laurel about five years ago. “They had always been child-free and EXTREMELY proud of it,” she said. Laurel even went so far as to complain about children and parents in public, especially the way parents handled their own kids. She even targeted mothers who chose to breastfeed their babies in public, telling them to cover up. “Overall, Laurel doesn’t like kids,” OP further explained.

It seemed like Laurel was going to need a change of heart as it turned out that she was pregnant. It was completely planned, so both OP’s brother and sister-in-law were prepared to take on all of the responsibilities and difficulties that come with having a baby. It seemed like everyone was thrilled to be welcoming a new member to the family; everyone, that is, except for Laurel.

“The family was very excited, but Laurel has made a misery out of the entire pregnancy and to be honest, we know she plans to make a misery out of her poor kid’s life as well,” OP said. Knowing that she’s having a baby girl, Laurel has already started complaining about what she’ll have to do to care for her, explaining that she wants the baby to have short hair and not wear dresses. She even refused to let the rest of the family buy any baby toys, reasoning that the child wouldn’t even want to play with them until she was older. “I don’t even like babies, but I know that’s a complete lie,” OP said.

OP had finally reached her limits with her sister-in-law during a family dinner. Laurel continued to rant about the annoyance of having a child, specifically having to set up the baby’s room and how expensive everything was. Once again, she referred to the entire experience as “miserable.” OP was done listening to her complain so much. “I asked her why she got pregnant if she didn’t want this kid,” she said. “That was a bowling ball catastrophe, and even though my brother often tells me he asks the same thing, apparently Laurel doesn’t like getting called out about her behavior toward her unborn child.”

OP explained that she knew she might have been wrong for “overstepping,” but Reddit users were quick to jump in to let OP know that she was not wrong since Laurel’s words and actions constantly made it seem like she really didn’t want to have a baby. One user commented, “All the things she sees as awful and exhausting are things a lot of moms look forward to when pregnancy is hard or stressful.” Another said, “This isn’t even an elephant in the room, it’s a blue whale.”

After receiving so many helpful comments filled with advice, OP updated her post and talked about what she planned to do next. “If I can make my way back into the good graces of my niece’s parents (which I doubt since Laurel has my brother wrapped around her finger) I’m gonna be the best aunt I can be,” she said.
