Many of the products we buy have a label that says that it was made in China. You would think that everything we buy and own was manufactured in a country across the world. More and more items are being produced and made in the United States of America. Due to things that have happened recently, the choice for increased production in America has proven to be for the best.

The shopping done by a woman in Arizona further supports this shift in American manufacturing. While doing her shopping she came across a purse that caught her eye and she opted to purchase the bag. Christel Wallace, the owner of the new purse, had no idea of what she would find hidden inside the purse.

Once she arrived home, she made a shocking discovery.

The inside of the purse was composed of a pocket that was closed by a zipper. Within the pocket Wallace discovered a handwritten letter. Unfortunately, the letter was written in Chinese and Wallace was not able to read it. She sought to get help deciphering the words from a translator.

Wallace was overwhelmed with horror in response to what the details of the letter stated. According to Wallace, her heart went to her stomach.

A Chinese worker was pleading for help to be rescued from terrible work conditions in a prison located in Guangxi, China. According to the prisoner, workers undergo work days that consist of 14 hours of nonstop work, the pay is unreasonable, and the days are full of beatings.

Representatives of Walmart heard of the discovery made by Wallace and asked Wallace to bring the letter in so that its authenticity could be verified. The treatment that these prisoners were facing was heartbreaking for both Wallace and Laura, her daughter-in-law.

It is not an easy task to help someone suffering on the other side of the world. The most Wallace and Laura have been able to do is bring awareness to what unfair treatment happens in other areas of the world. Laura stated that she doesn’t have the resources to help those in need at the prison in Guangxi, China. She shares that bringing awareness to what is going on is her way of helping the prisoners.

Whenever people go to purchase products, Wallace and Laura want everyone to think of where the products are coming from. It is common to go to the store and buy the things we need without ever thinking about where they are produced.

What can be done in the future to help individuals facing these kinds of work environments?
