Woman Breaks Up With Boyfriend At Airport After His Mother Gives Her A 'Free Coach Ticket'
Apr 22, 2022 by apost team
Getting along with your partner's family can be crucial when it comes to making a relationship last. However, this is sometimes easier said than done. For one woman, she found that despite her efforts, her boyfriend's family – specifically his mother – just didn't seem to like her for some reason. While she had gotten used to receiving an attitude from her boyfriend's mom, she was not prepared for the family vacation she was set to embark on.
On Apr. 10, 2022, the woman went to Reddit to share an issue she was having with her boyfriend and his family in regards to an upcoming vacation and ask users for their advice on how to move forward. The original poster (OP) explained that her boyfriend's parents bought themselves, her boyfriend, her boyfriend's siblings and all of their significant others first-class tickets for a flight to Cabo for spring break.
However, they hadn't extended that generosity to OP and left her as the only one with a coach ticket. On top of that, their check-in experiences at the airport were completely different and only pointed out to OP just how differently she was treated compared to everyone else.
It all became too much for OP, and she ended up having a tough time fighting back the tears while she waited in the long check-in line all alone. Her boyfriend had basically done nothing to help her out and didn't seem to see an issue with what was happening. Eventually, OP's emotions were too much for her to handle, and she reached her breaking point.

Starting off her Reddit post, OP explained how her boyfriend's parents bought everyone tickets for a trip to Cabo for spring break. She also mentioned how his mom Becky always seemed to make snide remarks about how OP comes from a blue-collar family and about her nursing job.
"We get to the airport and Becky got seven other people first class tickets and me one coach ticket," OP said. "She told me I was used to it and she had a free coach ticket so I should be grateful for going. They all did their express check ins and left me in the long line for me to think about what the heck is going on. I had to keep from crying the whole time in line."
When OP got to the check-in counter, she learned that she had to pay a baggage fee. "My boyfriend at the time never once helped me through the coach line or said anything to his mom," she added. She noticed how smug his mother looked, and OP completely broke down.
"And I let all of my frustrations out on the attendant and started crying," she said. "Basically she said don't go with that family sweetie they don't appreciate you." OP realized that the woman was right, so she took her luggage and got out of line.
She continued, "I was so upset on how I was treated and started crying on my boyfriend in the airport about how his mother was treating me." Knowing that something had to be done to fix this, OP made a tough decision.

OP didn't feel supported by her boyfriend. She explained, "I broke up with him at the airport and his mother was so embarrassed." OP also called her now ex-boyfriend's mother some pretty crude names, "My boyfriend has been blowing up my phone saying how could I do that to his mother and just back out of a vacation very last minute and wasted everyone's time and money," she added.
Since then, OP has wondered if she made the right decision by not getting on the plane with her boyfriend and his family. Fortunately for her, many Reddit users have shown their support and helped OP realize that she was right to back out of the family trip.
One user commented, "The check in lady was correct. If you would have got on the plane, you would have been treated like this for the entire vacation. It was absolutely the right decision to stand up for yourself."
The user continued, "As far as wasting money, she said the ticket was free and I'm sure she didn't spend much on your hotel accommodations. As far as wasting time, you wasted enough of your own time on a relationship with your boyfriend if he isn't going to stand by you. They are going to say that you should be happy for any kind of vacation and not look down on a coach ticket, but his mother was being pointedly rude to you."
Another user commented, "What is the old saying? 'Money doesn't buy class?' Mommy thinks she won this round, but OP is the real winner."
