Woman Asks The Public If Pajamas Should Be Washed Every Day Or Not, Divides The Internet

Washing one’s clothes might be one of the most mundane household tasks one could possibly think of. The chore, despite how routine it is for some, can also be a daunting deed for busy adults. Even if one uses a washing machine or does manual laundry, the entire process can be taxing – from washing, scenting, drying, folding and ironing, it surely takes much of one’s time and energy.

That is why when TikTok user Allison Delperdang posted a video in January 2023, she got herself in the middle of a controversy as she asked a particularly divisive question – do you wash your pajamas after every wear?

"I need to know if people wear pyjamas multiple nights in a row. When I was younger my parents would always make us wear pyjamas multiple nights in a row as they weren't dirty. And I still do that as an adult,” she said in the video

After the huge question, Delperdang then showed her beige pajamas, which she revealed she had been using for three nights in a row already.

“So I need to know if as an adult were still doing that, or should I be literally making dirty clothes every single night? Are we wearing pajamas multiple nights? What’s the situation?” she asked.

While the question seemed to be one of those ones that get everyone thinking, Delperdang's TikTok video got people talking and debating if it is okay to wear pajamas only once or use them multiple times in a row without washing them daily.

The TikTok video went viral on the video-sharing platform and has amassed more than 1.6 million views already. It launched a polarizing debate about whether it is a sanitary thing to do or just a practical solution to adulthood woes.

Most of the people on TikTok sided with Delperdang, saying that they do not wash their pajamas until after the week.

“saving the environment and your clothes! if it's not dirty/smelly then why wash it? I wear mine for a week in winter!” another echoed.

“100% wear multiple nights in a row! I mean let’s be honest I rewear my workout leggings after working out a few times,” someone confessed.

While most of the answers affirmed Delperdang's questions, there was a majority of users that were disgusted by what she had done growing up.

“I never re-wear PJs... we shed dead skin cells constantly and even though it may not be dirty I can't do it lol,” another revealed.

“No because I am still wearing them 8+ hours, they just don’t feel clean,” someone said.

According to Real Simple, sweat, dead skin cells, bacteria, natural body oils and even lotions can build up in one’s jammies; if people wear them multiple times without washing, it could cause some skin issues or irritation.

The American Cleaning Institute also suggests that the frequency with which one should change out and wash their clothes depends on what they are doing while wearing them, the type of fabric, and also the weather and climate the wearer is in.

“The ACI says that it's best to wash your pajamas after three or four wears, but if you shower before bed, you may get a few more wears out of them before washing them,” Refinery29 reported
