With Just Days Left To Live, Terminally Ill Man Renews Vows With Wife In A Heartwrenching Ceremony

When people say the words "...until death do us part" during their wedding ceremonies, they are thinking that they won't have to face that eventuality for many years. That's not the case for Tony and Christy Leonard of Fayetteville, North Carolina. This couple doesn't have years before one of them has to leave the other for the last time. Unfortunately, their marriage is only going to last a couple of days.

Tony received a diagnosis of cancer in 2012. He spent years fighting this disease, and he thought that he had it beat, but this turned out not to be true. He married Christy 12 years ago, and she has remained by his side ever since. On January 2, Christy wrote in her blog, "I'm not ready to say goodbye. I know we are looking at days." She added, "...when you get to heaven, save a place for me..."

This story tugged at every heart because Tony's life is ending too early. Even so, this couple found a way to express the happiness they share together by celebrating their love. Brooke Tedder is Tony's hospice nurse, and she lost her son to lung cancer in 2011. She was the one who made it possible for the couple to have the second wedding that they had dreamed about for years.

Tony and Christy had always planned to renew their wedding vows, and they had the chance to do it this year. Their family members and friends were the guests, and there wasn't a dry eye in the place. Tony remained in bed most of the day, but he made an effort to stand during the ceremony, and he succeeded. The bride and groom held hands and gave each other an emotional kiss.

After the ceremony, the couple took photographs and shared the wedding cake. Christy made a point of stating that Tony is the love of her life. After that beautiful day, Christy wrote in her blog, "For now, I will dry my eyes, go lay in his arms, and kiss him...and enjoy it."

We are sharing this couple's pain at this moment, and we are praying for them.

The love and the faith that they have in each other is truly inspiring to us. Feel free to let everyone in your circle experience this story. If you would like to tell us your thoughts on it, you may leave a comment here.
