While Me And Bobby McGee is probably most well-known for its covers by Janis Joplin and the Grateful Dead, it is actually a Kristofferson-penned song. He told Performing Songwriter that the song that tells a story of a couple of free spirits on the road was inspired by La Strada, a Fellini movie.

Kris and Willie were part of The Highwaymen, a supergroup that was comprised of the biggest stars in country music including Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings. They toured the country with their joint performances and one memorable song was Me And Bobby McGee.

Kris was inducted into the third annual Austin City Limits Hall of Fame, alongside B.B. King, Bonnie Raitt in 2016.

Besides Willie and Kris' sweet performance Me And Bobby McGee, the event also featured items by Billy Gibbons, Mavis Staples, Rodney Crowell, Gary Clark Jr., Taj Mahal, B.B. King’s Blues Band and Eve Monsees.
