Will Prince William And Kate Middleton Take After Prince Charles And Camilla's Footsteps

The royals have been quarantining in different parts of the UK ever since lockdown measures were put in place in March. However, it was revealed this week that Prince Charles and Camilla will be the first to return to London, in time for their first official in-person engagement since lockdown started with the French president Emmanuel Macron.

This has everyone wondering if Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their children will follow in Charles and Camilla's footsteps and also head back to the capital soon.

Prince Charles, 71, and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, 72, have spent the last almost three months at their cottage Birkhall in Scotland. After Charles tested positive for COVID-19 while there, Camilla was forced to self-isolate as well. Prince Charles experienced only mild symptoms and recovered after seven days, and both of them are doing well now.

They're currently preparing to leave Scotland to return to London, amid easing of restrictions across the UK, as they have their first official royal engagement. They will be the first royals to carry out official work of this kind again, as they meet with French President Emmanuel Macron in London later this week. The occasion for the meeting is the 80th anniversary of Charles de Gaulle's appeal to the French to resist the Nazi occupation. The meeting will take place at Charles and Camilla's London residence Clarence House on June 18th, where they will welcome Macron, who is exempt from the 14-day isolation period that's been imposed on travelers entering the UK.

Although this cautious restarting of royal engagements has sparked questions of whether Prince William, 37, and Kate Middleton, 38, will also return to London soon and resume working, at this stage, it doesn't appear to be the case yet. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have spent the last few months at their residence Anmer Hall in Norfolk, along with their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. And while the Duke and Duchess have not been able to work as normal during the quarantine period, they have kept up some of their royal duties through Zoom calls. Speaking with a wide range of people, from key workers to charities, they've provided positive support to people across the UK.

The elder of their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte are both students at Thomas's Battersea, although they have been homeschooled during this period. It's believed they won't resume going to classes until school reopens in September. The Cambridges have discussed the challenges of homeschooling amid lockdown in various interviews.

Kate Middleton, who is an avid amateur photographer and whose work can be seen on the Cambridges official Instagram page, where she often posts photos of the children that she's taken herself, has recently collaborated with the National Portrait Gallery to launch a nationwide photography project in the UK. Titled Hold Still, the project encourages people to submit photos they've taken during the lockdown, with the intention of capturing "the spirit, mood, hopes, fears, and feelings of the nation" during the unprecedented time of the coronavirus pandemic.

One royal engagement that didn't go ahead as usual during lockdown was Trooping the Colour, an event in which all of the royal family get together to celebrate the Queen's official birthday. This year, Her Majesty watched a pared-back parade that took place in the quadrangle at Windsor Castle.
