Wild Horse Gives Rescuer Kiss After Being Released From Being Tied Up

There is something majestic about horses. Perhaps it's the smooth, powerful way they run or the thrill someone gets from feeling the wind whipping back their hair when they are in the saddle. Whatever it is, we have a unique bond with our equine friends.

This bond is not just one-sided, as was on display when Ovidiu Rosu, a veterinarian for the Four Paws team, saved a wild horse from cruel restraints and was rewarded for his efforts with a kiss. This story, which was captured on video in 2016, shows how even the wildest of horses inspire such great love and respect from many people.

If you visit the Delta Danube region in Letea, Romania, you may spot some wild horses trotting around the countryside. As The Guardian reports, around 4,000 wild horses roam freely throughout the wilderness. They are quite the sight to behold because they are among the last of their kind in Europe. In Letea, they are a source of some controversy. Many people are concerned about their impact on the ecosystem due to the fact that their population is steadily increasing. Yet these beautiful animals are also subjected to cruel treatment by some locals.

According to The Express, Ovidiu Rosu was working for his Four Paws team when he saw a wild horse caught in one of the harsh restraints common for Letea. Rosu noticed that the horse's front legs were shackled together with chains to prevent it from galloping away. It is known that this type of restraint causes the horse to be extremely uncomfortable and creates many cruel restrictions. Rosu wanted to help, but he had to come up with a plan.

Rosu knew that approaching the wild horse and trying to take off the restraint could be dangerous to himself and the horse. It was very likely that the horse would try to run away if approached and cause itself serious harm. There was also the chance that Rosu could get attacked by a fearful horse.

The Four Paws vet knew he needed the horse to be calm so he could get the restraint off. He decided to shoot it with a tranquilizer gun. After successfully tranquilizing the horse, Rosu went to work immediately. He covered the eyes of the restrained horse so it would remain calm while he did his work, reports Express. Another horse stood by watching as Rosu got to work on freeing his equine friend.

With the horse subdued, Rosu assessed the horse's situation. Its ankles were chained together. It was clear that this animal had been targeted for slaughter. Using a pair of pliers, Rosu worked on getting the chains off, while more horse friends gathered to watch him work. Eventually, the veterinarian succeeded in getting the restrictions off the equine's legs.

Eventually, the wild horse came out of his stupor and the team at Four Paws removed the covering from his face. The team, including Rosu, helped the horse get back up on his feet and Rosu was met with gratitude for all his efforts, in the form of a kiss from his new equine friend! With everything going on in the world it's nice to see someone taking the time to be selfless and assist an animal in need. This event reminds us that, even in all the chaos, there is still lots of good and compassion in the world.
