You probably do not expect to see a wild elephant dreaming away in the middle of the road. That was the case for one local who happened to be passing through in his car one day. The wild animal had decided that the road looked good enough to sleep on!

Nattawat Patsungsing, a 57-year-old motorist driving through Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand said that he was simply passing through when he was stopped by an amazing sight- a massive elephant that was napping in the road.

Nattawat quietly stood to take a video of the elephant as it peacefully slept in the road, blocking the way from either side. He said that he was as quiet as possible since he did not want the elephant to wake up and possibly charge him.

You can see the giant mammal flapping its ears while it sleeps. It also jerks its legs around a bit before finally waking up completely. All of a sudden the elephant stands up, takes a look at the man filming it and then walks calmly away. Nattawat can be heard talking to the animal quietly during the video, asking it to please move so that he could get to work. The elephant was taking up the entire road.

The elephant is actually well known to wildlife officials around the area. They spoke about the incident, saying that the elephant, named Nga-Thong which means "golden ivory" in Thai, is known as being somewhat troublesome in that particular area reports The Daily Mail.

The motorist added that Nga-Thong does not like to come out when the road is full of cars and buses, because he does not like all of the noise. The national park officers are usually the only ones who see him. They also stated that he is very shy when it comes to humans.

Nattawat had to wait 20 minutes for the elephant to get up and move. He said that although he ended up being late for work, he was happy that he was able to get close to him. Luckily, no one was harmed at all during those long 20 minutes.
