If you’ve ever been to Alaska or seen pictures, you know how beautiful of a state it can be. The landscape’s beauty is unlike anything you can find anywhere else, and views of the wildlife are abundant anywhere you go. The state’s McNeil River has also become known for how many beautiful brown bears gather in the area.

Authorities in Alaska named the area as a wildlife sanctuary in the 1960’s and have even enlarged the surrounding zones for the wildlife to roam free and safely in the 1990’s. This sanctuary is one of the only spots in the entire world where tourists can have close encounters with wildlife such as these brown bears.

One lucky person had an interesting close encounter with a large brown bear in the McNeil River State Game Sanctuary that was caught on tape. The man, Drew Hamilton, was minding his own business when a brown bear approached him, sitting down next to him and seemed to enjoy the surrounding scenery with him.

Hamilton was a technical worker for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. The day of the encounter, he was working on photographing the brown bears of the sanctuary when he got to have the chance to meet one up close.

Hamilton has spent the last decade of his life taking pictures of the bears and observing their behavior. He has also worked in Canada and observed black and polar bears. During this incident, he was sitting down in his camping chair when he was approached by a large brown bear. Once Hamilton realized what approached him, he was most likely scared but showed no fear in front of the beautiful animal.

When the bear walked back to the river, he recorded the surprising situation on his phone:

The bear showed no signs of aggression and seemed unbothered by Hamilton’s presence. What would you do if you were approached by a brown bear?
