Wife Under Anesthesia Did Not Recognize Her Husband, Thought He Was A Stranger: ‘You’re Cute’

We often hear from people who undergo surgery that they don’t feel any pain throughout the whole operation, mostly crediting the numbing to anesthesia. But that shouldn’t come as a surprise as that simply means that the anesthesia served its purpose. 

But did you know that there are different side effects of anesthesia? Well, believe it or not, one of the most common complaints of patients post-operation is memory loss. 

While it is one of the most common complications of anesthesia, it can admittedly be scary. Then there’s postoperative delirium in which anesthesia can cause “confusion that comes and goes for about a week.” Of course, it varies from one experience to another. One woman, though, may have proven that this can be true – but in the most romantically exciting way, that is.

In February 2023, a Reddit user named u/Zee2A shared a video of a man checking on his wife after undergoing surgery. Yes, just in time for Valentine’s Day. But to his surprise, his wife had temporary short-term memory loss at the time. While one might expect that it wouldn't turn out well, the couple actually had the most heartwarming conversation – and it touched the hearts of those who saw the video. 

In the video, the woman caressed her husband’s face. "You look a little weird but you are cute,” she said.

Of course, it made the man laugh. But his wife went on to stare at him and said: "You're funny lookin.”

The woman then took off her husband’s cap and put it on her own head, to which her husband reacted: "I like it. It suits you.” But instead of saying thank you, his wife replied to him with yet another hilarious answer. "I like you. I think you're cute,” the wife said.

The man was all smiles while having their heartwarming exchange, which prompted him to say: "I am gonna blow your mind right now, do you want to know how?" He then went on to kiss his wife on the cheek, leaving her caught by surprise.

Still seemingly convinced that the guy in front of her was a stranger and not her husband, the woman told the man of her life: "That cute guy is kissing me." As if the kiss on the cheek wasn’t enough to make people smile, he went on to kiss her on the lips, leaving her even more surprised. 

Some people even shared their own experiences with their loved ones, including one man whose brother who had always hated him suddenly told him he loved him after getting his wisdom tooth extracted. 

“My brother has always hated me. However, when he had his wisdom teeth taken out he had the same sort of thing happen. After I told him I was his brother he was really surprised and I was really taken aback when he said that he loved me. I still think about it and it makes me smile,” one person shared.

Another person opened up about his experience with his wife of 15 years with whom he shares two wonderful kids.

“This reminds me of a girl I was seeing in college. She ended up having knee surgery while we were together only a few months. After the surgery, she was on some serious pain meds, but she recognized me when I was finally able to see her. She grabbed the nurse by the arm and said ‘I'm gonna marry him.’ Blew my mind to hear that from her. I had no idea she thought that seriously of me,” the person said.
