Wife Saves Husband After Honeymoon Volcano Accident

Newlywed Clay Chastain recently nearly had a fatal accident when he plummeted into the mouth of a dormant volcano.

His wife and he were enjoying a scenic hiking excursion on the picturesque Caribbean island of St. Kitts during their honeymoon. On July 18th, the accident occurred. They were hiking on one of the tallest volcanoes in the Caribbean, Mt. Liamuiga.

The couple had hiked to the top when Clay said he wanted to climb into the volcano to get a good view of the plant life there. Luckily, Acaimie had a fear of heights, and she decided not to accompany him on the perilous climb that was nearly a straight drop down.

Shortly after Clay began his descent, Acaimie heard a snap followed by a rumbling sound. She was concerned enough for her husband's life to set aside her fear of heights and venture downward. She spotted his bandana and phone before she finally found Clay lying on the ground with a bleeding head wound.

There were no people around, and they could not get phone reception. The couple had to make an arduous trip on foot back to their base that took three hours. Acaimie, a woman of slight build who stands five feet two and weighs only 105 pounds, bore the weight of her husband the whole way.

Clay was breathing heavily and repeatedly asking how much farther they had to walk. He vomited and barely held onto consciousness as his wife supported him along the two-mile trek. His wounds were serious, but he survived the trip.

Luckily, a fundraising initiative was able to raise over $30,000, allowing the couple to charter a medical flight to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Clay is currently recovering in a US hospital with bone fractures in his skull and vertebrae.

The couple is amazed that Clay was able to survive the two-mile walk with his injuries, and Clay is thankful that his injuries were not even worse.

"Her being able to carry me all the way down a volcano when I can barely stand up is amazing and it's definitely nothing short of a miracle," a proud Clay told CBS Miami.

This was certainly not your classic romantic honeymoon trip. On the other hand, could there be anything more loving or beautiful than literally having your life saved by the woman you just married? Than saving the life of the man you chose as your husband? Tell us your thoughts in the comments and spread the word about this story!
