Wife Required Polygraph Tests from Her Husband Upon Arrivals Home Due to Extreme Jealousy

Dubbed the “world’s most jealous” woman, Debbi Wood makes her husband, Steve Wood, take a lie detector test every time he comes home for fear he has been unfaithful. She even goes the extra mile to keep him from straying by monitoring what he watches on television, his computer and phone.

Scotland native Debbi was introduced to Steve in 2011 through a friend and they sparked a friendship online. After traveling to London to meet him, the pair fell for each other. They eventually decided to move in together, which was when Debbi’s suspicious nature began to flare up.

Debbi began keeping tabs on Steve’s every move, including by modifying his laptop and phone so that child-proof filters would keep him from seeing pictures of women. She also forbade him from reading magazines and watching television shows with women in them. Debbi told Daily Mail:

“One night, an advert for a women’s razor came on television and I felt panicky thinking that Steve was eyeing the model up. The only thing that could put my mind at rest was banning him from watching any programs that have women in them. … That’s why I decided to order the lie detector online. It was my only way of knowing for sure if Steve’s eyes were wandering. In general, he’s quite truthful but I have caught him lying a few times about looking at other women.”

She added: “I think he’s gorgeous, but that’s not the issue – it’s about whether or not I can trust him not to look at other women while he is out on his own. I don’t want him thinking they’re hot. If you’re in a relationship and you’re happy with your partner, you should only have eyes for that person,” she said.

In September 2013, Debbi was diagnosed with Othello syndrome, also known as pathological jealousy. The psychological disorder leads one to suspect their partners are being unfaithful without any proof. Treatment includes medication and cognitive and behavioral therapy, which Debbi underwent in the hopes that she could one day marry Steve.

That day came on Halloween in October 2014, and Debbi, then 43, walked down the aisle with Steve, then 30. As it turned out, while Debbi was aware her behavior was extreme, she wasn’t afraid of it driving Steve away. In an appearance on This Morning with Steve, Debbi said:

“I don’t think I could frighten him off if I tried.”

Steve responded: “I don’t think there’s any danger of that happening anytime soon. If I was going to come out, I’d probably gone by now.”

Debbi said she’s aware of how much her behavior impacts Steve but is appreciative of his patience.

“I put Steve through a lot but he’s stood by me through it all so I know he’s the man for me. I think lots of women out there must be suffering from the same condition and just not realize it. … I’m lucky my partner is so understanding – others might not be so fortunate,” she told Daily Mail.

Meanwhile, Steve may not be the biggest fan of lie detector tests but he is of Debbi. He told the publication:

“Sometimes, I get nervous and the lie detector test results come back inconclusive because my heart is hammering, which makes Debbi doubt me. I just have to tell her I haven’t cheated and pray she believes me. I’m willing to put up with it, because I know we’re soulmates. She’s so special to me and a bit of jealousy here and there won’t change that.”
