Gender reveal parties have been pretty popular since the late 2000s, especially in the United States. It's a party held during the mother's pregnancy to reveal the expected baby's gender to the soon-to-be parents along with all of their friends and family. Most couples find out their baby's gender by either cutting a cake to see a colored frosting or by popping a balloon to see a colorful stream of confetti; blue represents a boy while pink represents a girl. While some gender reveal parties have gone wrong and led to some epic fails, the majority are a great way for the expecting parents to celebrate with their friends and family.

For one couple, their gender reveal party in November 2015 left the expecting parents a bit confused as to whether they were having a boy or a girl. They had all their friends and family lined up to watch in anticipation as they popped a huge balloon filled with confetti. The confetti was supposed to be either pink or blue to show if they were going to have a son or a daughter. The couple themselves had opted not to find out before the reveal - but members of their family had spoken to the doctors and knew what it was. It was meant to be a twist on the usual gender reveal gimmick. However, when they popped the balloon, a stream of rainbow confetti fell to the ground.

Clearly perplexed, the couple stood in shock as they wondered what exactly just happened.

Are They Having A Boy Or A Girl?

Chris and Tracy Maschke had been happily married for two years before they decided that they were ready to have a baby, according to Best Worthy. Hosting their gender reveal party in their front yard with plenty of their friends and family members present, the couple and their friends and family were excited to find out if they were having a boy or a girl. The couple had opted for the classic "balloon filled with confetti method." While many people try to have more and more extravagant gender reveal parties, couples such as Chris and Tracy like to keep it simple. Seeing the reactions of their family members would certainly be satisfying either way.

Holding the string attached to it together, the couple popped the giant black balloon to reveal the confetti that was showcasing what they were having. As is the classic choice, blue was meant to signal a boy, and pink was meant to signal a girl. All their family and friends were excitedly watching while somebody filmed the whole event.

After the happy couple popped the balloon, a shower of rainbow confetti fell to the ground, leaving the couple and most of their guests extremely confused. They looked around and turned to their loved ones for answers, only to find a box on the grass in the midst of the rainbow confetti. Wondering if the answer to their question was inside, the soon-to-be father picked it up and eagerly opened it. Unfortunately, it didn't help. The box, unfortunately, was a miss and didn't help clear anything up.

Luckily, a second balloon was brought to the couple's attention. The perplexed but amused parents accepted the second black balloon with grace.

Once again, Chris and Tracy grabbed hold of the string as they popped the balloon together. This time, blue confetti burst in the air, revealing that the couple was having a baby boy. Stunned and excited, they instantly began celebrating with each other and their loved ones.

It later turned out, as mentioned in the comments on the video, that Chris's brother had decided to pull a prank on the couple, switching out balloons on them. The harmless but fun little trick was a good way of making the family laugh while also drawing out the tension of the reveal. The look on Tracy's face as she looks around, completely lost about what was going on, is certainly something to remember! However, the couple couldn't have been happier about their little son once the real balloon was popped. This is a wonderful example of a prank done right: nobody was harmed in any way and everybody could laugh about it afterward. A shared memory for the whole family that will certainly be mentioned at family meetings later on in the little guy's life!

video of the gender reveal party was uploaded to Chris' YouTube account back in November 2015, and has since been viewed over 2 million times. One person commented, "I like the psych-out method. I think it takes the focus away from gender expectation and gears it more towards gender celebration." Nowadays, Chris posts videos of his adorable 5-year-old son named Christopher. Congrats to the happy family!
