A Texas man recently sparked online debate after his wife shared that he had declined a free Super Bowl LIX ticket valued at $11,000. Fashion entrepreneur Jessica Anderson, 30 – who goes by the handle @tinytello on TikTok – uploaded a video onto her TikTok account with over half a million followers. The video has since amassed over a million views, eighty-thousand likes and countless reactions from social media users. In the video, Anderson was sitting next to her husband, Tim. The caption in the video read:
“Next time you’re sad, just remember Tim had to decline a free $11,000 Super Bowl ticket to attend my sister’s wedding.”
The Super Bowl is one of the most significant events in sports and the most important in American football, with the 2025 edition reaching nearly 130 million viewers. As with any major sporting event, it is the dream of every die-hard fan to watch the event live, an opportunity many anyone would consider a once-in-a-lifetime chance.
Therefore, many were shocked that Tim would pass up the opportunity to watch the Super Bowl live without paying a dime to attend his sister-in-law’s wedding.
While some understood his choice and commended his commitment to family, others thought he had made a grave mistake and deprived himself of a once-in-a-lifetime experience. As expected, the internet erupted into a debate over whether his sister-in-law’s wedding was worth Tim missing the huge sporting event.

With the initial video going viral, social media users instantly expressed their opinions on the issue, with many saying they would have rather missed the wedding instead of the Super Bowl. One user commented:
“I’m not even a football fan but that’s absolutely insane to not let him go.”
Some questioned the idea of having a wedding on the same weekend as the biggest event in football, including one user who asked:
“Okay but why would anyone plan their wedding Super Bowl weekend.”
Another user shared a similar sentiment, explaining what they would do in the same situation:
“I would 100% be letting mine go to the Superbowl. $11000 is worth missing a wedding 😭”
The debate continued, with one netizen defending Anderson by comparing the Super Bowl and the wedding, writing:
“One is a lifetime memory (a family members wedding) and the other will happen again next year, and can be watched on TV later. 🥰”
Amid all the backlash and the attention the video was getting, Anderson responded to the critics and offered some clarity. She shared in a video:
“My husband was allowed to go to the Super Bowl. He decided to not go on his own.”
She also responded to those who claimed that her husband had missed a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, saying:
“It was logistically impossible for him to attend because he was invited at 9 p.m. the day before we were leaving on our flight to Mexico for the wedding,” she said. “And for everyone saying, ‘Oh, my God, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience,’ I do not subscribe to that limiting belief. I will be going to the Super Bowl many more times in this lifetime, so keep that belief to yourself.”
