Delivering your own baby might not be what you had in mind when you created your birth plan.

For one doctor, he had to use his medical knowledge to make sure his wife delivered their baby while they were in the air.

The woman was from Central Africa and on a flight with her husband to Turkey. Even though she knew that she didn't have much longer left to deliver her baby, the 21-year-old and her husband thought that they would be able to fly for a few hours.

The woman's husband is a doctor, so that made her feel a little more comfortable because he felt safe in flying as well. About three hours after the plane took off, the young woman's water broke.

Michoukayembe started experiencing severe pain in her stomach soon after they boarded the plane. She knew that her baby wasn't due for another month, so going into labor was the last thing on her mind. When the pain didn't go away, she knew that she was in labor and that she needed help soon.

Her husband stepped into his role as a doctor so that he could help in delivering his own baby 42,000 feet in the air. Michoukayembe's husband made sure that she was as comfortable as possible on the plane.

Some of the other passengers offered their assistance as well. There were a few crew members who were able to help the doctor using the emergency supplies on the plane.

Shortly after her stomach pain started, Michoukayembe delivered a healthy baby boy. Everyone started taking pictures while offering their congratulations to the new parents. The plane didn't have to divert because the birth seemed to progress smoothly.

When the plane landed in Turkey, the mother and baby were taken to a local hospital to be examined.
