Widower Recreates His Late Wife’s Pregnancy Shoot With Their One-Year-Old Daughter

Losing a loved one is never easy. In August 2020, James Alvarez’s wife, Yesenia Aguilar, was struck by a car and killed. She had been struck by an alleged drunk driver while out on a walk with Alvarez on Aug. 11, 2020, in Los Angeles. Aguilar was only 23 years old at the time. The horrific incident was entirely devastating to Alvarez, but he fortunately had someone to help him get through the hard times ahead.

Alvarez’s wife had been 35-weeks pregnant at the time she passed away. Through an emergency procedure, doctors were able to successfully deliver a beautiful and healthy baby girl named Adalyn Rose Alvarez-Aguilar. Adalyn has become a living reminder of Alvarez’s late wife and has also become his entire pride and joy. They have already made some amazing memories together and are on track to make many more.

Prior to Aguilar’s death, she had done a maternity photoshoot alongside her husband, and the pictures were absolutely breathtaking. She looked absolutely stunning in a pretty pink dress as she held her pregnant belly adoringly. Wanting to relive some of the most beautiful moments he shared with his wife, Alvarez decided to recreate the photo shoot with his daughter on her 1st birthday. Not only was it a way to celebrate his baby girl’s birthday, but it was also a way to honor his late wife, who had died on the same day. The pictures turned out just as gorgeous as the original set and even inspired a new tradition for the family.

Wanting to commemorate his late wife and celebrate his daughter’s first birthday, Alvarez recreated the maternity photos he and Aguilar had taken while she was pregnant. “Adalyn’s birthday was coming up and unfortunately her birthday is the same day I lost my wife,” Alvarez said, as per the Daily Mail. “I wanted to do something meaningful and special to celebrate her birthday and honor my wife.”

Reenacting the maternity photoshoot, Adalyn wore a pink dress just like her mother had worn. The baby and her father also posed in similar positions for the photoshoot. “We tried to reenact it to make the pictures identical and it was truly amazing,” Alvarez said. After he saw the new photos alongside the old ones, the 37-year-old father became extremely emotional. “It reminded me of the day we took those pictures and how beautiful my wife looked,” he explained.

The Daily Mail reported that Aguilar was hit by an alleged drunk driver while out for a daily walk with Alvarez. The car had hopped the sidewalk and headed in the couple’s direction. “I remember the ambulance arriving and telling them, ‘please try to save her and if you can’t, please try to save our daughter,’” he recalled.

Alvarez has decided to make the photoshoot a yearly tradition and has gone on to share his story to hopefully inspire others and to keep his wife’s memory alive, according to the Daily Mail. “I want people to know my wife was an amazing woman and she gave her life to save my daughter,” he said. He added, “Seeing the pictures and seeing Adalyn dressed up like my wife, it reminded me that I still have a piece of my wife with me and that’s my daughter.”
