Widowed Man Is About To Throw Out Plant From Deceased Wife - Only For It To Give Him A Sign

Many people struggle to keep houseplants alive for more than a few months, and this may be even more true with seasonal plants.

However, one small poinsettia defied all odds and surprised a grieving widow with its vibrant health and rapid rate of growth.

The poinsettia was given to Maxine when she won a call-in contest for a local radio station on Christmas Eve almost two decades ago. Unfortunately, Maxine suffered a heart attack a few days later. When she passed away, her husband began taking care of the poinsettia.

He assumed that a seasonal plant like a poinsettia would quickly perish, but he was pleasantly surprised when this did not happen.

Rather than wilt and die a few months after the holiday season passed, the plant shocked the husband by its strong will to survive. Maxine’s poinsettia thrived for more than 19 years, and it continues to thrive today. During this time, it did not remain the same size.

Instead, it experienced an incredible rate of growth, and it is now absolutely huge. It is so large, in fact, that Maxine’s husband no longer puts up a Christmas tree each year. The enormous size of the poinsettia is sufficient to fill the need for a tree.

Plant experts are equally astounded by how well this plant has grown and by how long it has lived. It is rare for a poinsettia to grow larger than 5 feet tall and to weigh more than 100 pounds.

Maxine’s husband waters the plant twice a week and provides it with standard fertilizer from time to time. However, he attributes its health and growth to his wife’s spirit as well as to his devotion toward keeping Maxine’s memory alive and well.

While her husband originally planned to get rid of the poinsettia after its first holiday season, he has no intention of doing so now. He continues to feel close to his wife’s spirit by caring for the plant.

The poinsettia is especially significant to him during the holiday season because it is when she received the plant and when she passed away.

This touching story about Maxine and her poinsettia is only one of many similar experiences that widows and other survivors have had as they honor the spirit and memory of loved ones.
