It's the perfect time of year to evaluate what's holding you back. If you're like most people, you're clinging onto old slights, resentment, and anger. Someone has hurt you, and you just can't let it go. The problem?
By staying angry and not forgiving that person, you're also hurting yourself. As difficult as it might be, you need to forgive them. The only way to move beyond what happened is to let it go. Here are the top reasons to embrace forgiveness.

1. By letting go of anger and resentment, you'll be able to focus on attracting positivity into your life instead.
2. Everyone has screwed up at some point. We're all human. As humans, we're prone to making mistakes that sometimes hurt other people--even people we love. If someone screwed up and hurt you, recognise that we're all flawed. It doesn't mean what they did was okay, but it does mean that mistakes are a part of life.

3. Do you want to be known as a person who's stuck in the past? Wouldn't you rather be thought of as a healthy, happy person who focuses on the future?
4. Anger is bad for your health. It also makes your immune system weaker. Your mind and body are connected. The more you hold onto stress, the worse you'll feel.

5. Letting go of resentment and anger helps you to see all the good in your life that you've been overlooking. Embrace gratitude instead of resentment.
6. Staying angry with someone means there's always the potential for more drama in the future. Let it go, and kiss the drama goodbye.

7. Very few people are completely irredeemable. Recognizing the good in even the worst people from your past helps you to accept your own shortcomings. It doesn't mean you have to forget what the person did. It doesn't mean you have to be okay with it. It does mean you'll become a more compassionate, loving person. And isn't that the best revenge?
8. If you want to be forgiven for your own mistakes, you need to forgive others for theirs. Recognize that you, too, have hurt someone at some point in time.

10. According to the Law of Attraction, if you focus on something, you attract more of that into your life. By focusing on the person who hurt you, you're attracting more negative emotions and people.

11. By holding onto anger, you're giving the person who hurt you a place in your life. You're letting them control you. The past is over. You have control over your future happiness now. Forgiveness means finally being free.
12. You can't move forward if you're holding onto past pain. Old resentment will continue to colour your relationships until you learn how to move beyond it.
