Most of your household items, especially food products, have symbols and tags on them. You probably are so used to seeing them that you don’t even think about it! 

But did you know that many of these daily products offer secret uses you may not have a clue about? Even some of your garments have secret purposes you might not be aware of! For instance, what are the pom-poms on top of winter hats for? Have you ever wondered what the extra shoelace hole is used for?

Sure, we usually notice any unusual design details on the products we buy and use, but we normally don’t look at the different symbols marked on them. You’ll find symbols all over your plastic bottles, along with the list of ingredients and directions on using the product. Some may be unimportant but there are a few that you should head. 

Look on the back of your liquid products. You’ll see a symbol that looks like “12M” or “24M."
 

We all generally use at least a few liquid-based products every single day, such as soap, lotion, shampoo, and conditioner. We should keep an eye on these products to make sure we aren’t using them past their expiration date. For example, the bottle below has a “12M” symbol on it, meaning that the contents of the product are best used within the next 12 months after opening. 
 

You’re more than likely used to seeing the three small arrows that look like a triangle on some of your packages. This is the recycling symbol. But inside that symbol is a number that you may not have noticed before. It tells you how long the product will remain safe.
