Why It’s Okay To Cut Toxic Family Members Out Of Your Life
Jan 03, 2019 by apost team
It’s sad to say it, but there is a hierarchy when it comes to family relations. Members on the top have those qualities you seek in someone you want to be around. For instance, there’s that sister who is always there to listen even at 2 am.
The bottom of the hierarchy has a family member or two that lacks that sort of compassion. Those family members may have earned that place because they are kind of toxic to your life. Consider cutting these people from your life in order to preserve, or even find, peace and tranquility in your life. Take a look at some of the following features of a toxic family member.

Imagine sharing your deepest thoughts with a family member. Then they turn around and share that pain with others. That is an example of a toxic characteristic and one you should avoid.

They Only Talk To You When They Need Something

This toxic family member may have no problem going to you for some emotional support or advice. But when it comes time for them to give you the same attention - giving you a bit of their own tender support -- they aren’t there.
They’re Judgemental

Persistent criticism when you don’t want it can be detrimental to your self-esteem. Constructive criticism, on the other hand, is a good thing.
They Flip-Flop Between Positive And Negative Reinforcement

This can be a familiar scenario. First, that toxic family member trashes you with some horrible remark or remarks, sending you into a bad place. This is followed by a sweet talk to lure you back into their inner circle. But this is a trap. This flip-flop is only meant to set you up for the next round of misery.
They Gaslight You

If they continually refuse to own up to something even though they and everyone else knows they did it, that’s gaslighting.
