Why A Kiss Is More Than Just A Kiss

A kiss is so much more than skin-on-skin. For men and women alike, kissing is how we connect in our relationships.

Everybody always remembers the whole story behind their first kiss. Although you may forget some kisses later in life, the first one always stands out because it's special. Ever since we are little, we dream about the moment it will happen, and when we meet someone we like, we anticipate it forever. There are so many emotions wrapped up in a kiss, which is why you may have told your first kiss that you loved them, even if you were young and didn't know better.

Kissing is one of the first ways we show affection, and we kiss everyone we love, not just partners. But when we kiss romantically, magical things happen in our body as a response. Apart from feeling the intimacy of your souls intermingling, you may feel weak in the knees or short of breath due to the surge of oxytocin overtaking your body.

Lips are one of the most sensitive parts of our bodies, so this stimulation can trigger powerful reactions. In addition, men's saliva actually contains testosterone, and when you kiss, it gets transferred to the woman. This is thought to be an evolutionary trick to get both partners in the mood for sex.

Yet a kiss can bring two people together who may never part ways.

A big part of hook-up culture today is sex for the simple pleasure of it. Both parties agree beforehand, whether it's out loud or not, that this arrangement is not romantic and will not lead to a relationship. The big kicker is that people can have sex without feelings attached, but a lack of real intimacy means the two parties will not kiss.

Have you ever had sex with a fling and never kissed? A kiss can be so much more intimate than intercourse.

Yet there are ways that you can boost the effects of a good kiss. If you are kissing while you're making love, chances are you both have your eyes closed. Although this is a normal way to focus on the physical pleasure, try kissing with your eyes open, since eye-contact is a huge booster to intimacy. You definitely shouldn't freak your partner out with a staring contest, but try sneaking peaks at each other from time to time.
