Whoopi Goldberg Gives Fans A Glimpse Of Hidden Tattoo In ‘Liquid Water’ Oscars Dress

Hollywood’s most talented celebrities gathered for the 2025 Academy Awards on Mar. 2. The prestigious event was hosted at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. As expected, the Oscars impressed fans and sparked online conversation with stunning red-carpet looks, unforgettable winning moments and the most shocking snubs. One of the celebrities who walked the red carpet in style this year was actress and television host Whoopi Goldberg. 

The actress is one of the most famous stars in terms of awards, as she holds the enviable EGOT accolade. This honor means that she has won the most significant awards in different genres of art, with an Emmy for her work in television, a Grammy for music, an Oscar for film and a Tony for the stage. The actress got her big break in the period drama film “The Color Purple” and is now one of the hosts on the ABC talk show, “The View.”

Goldberg, 69, showed up to the Oscars in a custom off-shoulder boat neck gown by Christian Siriano. She got a sweet message from the designer on his official Instagram account as she strutted the red carpet in the breathtaking, fluid-like dress. He wrote:

“My friend and EGOT ICON @whoopigoldberg in custom Siriano liquid water tonight at the #OSCARS right off the runway! Love you Whoopi!”

The friendship between the designer and the actress is one of the most touching, with Siriano often collaborating with Goldberg and sending love to her on social media.

“Happy Birthday to this ICON @whoopigoldberg I’m a day late but I love you so much! Thank you for supporting me day one no questions asked. I love creating for you always and forever! 🖤💙,” he posted in celebration of her birthday on Nov. 14, 2023.

While Goldberg’s dress at the Oscars oozed elegance and iconic fashion sense, she ignited internet conversation for a different, unique reason. The off-the-shoulder neckline of the gorgeous dress revealed a tattoo on the “Ghosts of Mississippi” actress’ exposed shoulder. Since the actress and TV host typically picks dresses and button-down shirts that cover her shoulders, the tattoo on her shoulder has rarely been seen by the public. Goldberg’s tattoo features a colorful dragon spanning part of her back, her shoulder and one side of her chest. 

Like many on the internet, Goldberg was just as mesmerized by the gown the first time she saw it. During a red-carpet interview, she recalled her initial reaction to Siriano upon seeing the dress.

“Baby, that’s my dress,” she recalled saying to Siriano.

She had more words of praise for her stunning dress, which she showed off on stage as she presented an award alongside Oprah Winfrey. During the red carpet interview, she added:

“This dress is spectacular. When it moves, when it blows, that’s what it looks like, (water).”

Goldberg’s dress was one of the most stunning on the red carpet, boldly showcasing Siriano’s incredible talent.

“She saw this on the runway sitting front row and I said you can have that, no problem,” the designer said, describing the dress as “liquid water.”

“Whoopi doesn’t wear gowns that often but we did it tonight and she looks incredible,” Siriano continued. “I will dress Whoopi to the end of my career.”

Between the rarely-seen tattoo and the stunning dress, Goldberg clearly made her mark on the 2025 Oscars!
