"Who's the Boss?" Star Danny Pintauro Is Now Delivering Amazon Packages and the Reason Why Will Shock You

Danny Pintauro spent eight seasons as one of the most recognizable child actors on American television. As Jonathan Bower on "Who's the Boss?" — the ABC sitcom that ran from 1984 to 1992 alongside Tony Danza, Judith Light, and Alyssa Milano — he became a household name before he was a teenager. After the show ended, he stepped away from acting entirely, attended Stanford University, and graduated in 1998. He returned to the industry in the years that followed, building a quieter career that looked nothing like the one the tabloids might have predicted.

On April 8, 2026, he posted a photo to Instagram from the front seat of a car filled with packages. "Working hard while 'not working,'" he wrote. "The entertainment business has been soooo slow, so I've been doing what a lot of people do — figuring it out, showing up, and taking the work that's there while I keep building the work I really want. 38 packages today! There's no shame in staying in motion."

The post went viral almost immediately — not because it was shameful, but because it was honest in a way the industry rarely allows. Pintauro, born January 6, 1976, had been driving for Amazon Flex to supplement his income while continuing to audition. He was not hiding it. He was not apologizing for it.

What followed was a conversation about residuals, the realities of the modern entertainment industry, and one detail so stark it stopped people in their tracks: when Amazon acquired the streaming rights to all eight seasons of "Who's the Boss?" last year, Pintauro received a check for $4,000. "I definitely make more money working for Amazon than I do selling the show to Amazon," he said. "That's crazy to say."

The numbers behind that statement tell a story the industry has long preferred to keep quiet. Pintauro told People that a really good year of residuals from "Who's the Boss?" brings him approximately $9,000. The show aired before DVDs and streaming existed, which means his original contract contained no language about earning from those formats. "Unless you're in the top one percent of actors, acting is a gig, so you're constantly going for the next one," he said. "The concept that our residuals are not enough to survive on does not seem to get through people's brains."

Returning to the industry after a decade away has made things harder, not easier.

"Returning to acting after a ten-year break is an uphill battle, I'm reintroducing myself as an adult actor in an industry that looks very different than it once did. Since 2021 alone, television production in Los Angeles has dropped dramatically, and even pilot season is a fraction of what it used to be."

He has found other ways to stay creative in the gaps. Since November 2024, he has been crafting and selling handmade book nooks — decorative bookshelf displays — out of a booth at a fair in Long Beach, California, through his own shop, Wandering Book Nook. He has sold more than 155 of them. Amazon driving has since scaled back to once a week.

The viral moment also brought an unexpected reunion. During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Pintauro was joined by his "Who's the Boss?" co-star Judith Light — the woman who played his mother on screen for eight years. The industry may have moved on from child stars. Judith Light, at least, had not.

The viral moment also brought something Pintauro had not anticipated. Entertainment Tonight arranged for him to be reunited on camera with his "Who's the Boss?" co-star Judith Light — the woman who played his on-screen mother for eight years. The two embraced. Whatever the industry thinks of child stars who deliver packages, Judith Light clearly had not changed her mind about this one.
