White Lion Meets His Cub For The First Time

There's no greater bond than that between a parent and child. And as this video from 2014 shows, even weeks of separation can't sever the bond between a lion and his adorable cub.

Located in Broxbourne, England, this white lion named Moto was reunited with his daughter Zuri. You'd never know that they'd been separated; judging by this video, it looks like they've known each other their entire lives.

These lions are residents of a special park in England

Several years ago, a wildlife park in Broxbourne, England used to breed lions. A new law forced the park to end their breeding program, which resulted in the male lion in the video being separated from his cub. But in 2014, the lion Moto and his cub Zuri were finally reunited.

After being apart for so long, you start to wonder if they'll even recognize each other. Will Moto recognize that this cub is his daughter, or will he think that she's just another cub from the breeding program? Will Zuri realize that the majestic white lion in the pen is her father, or will she think he's just the ruler of the pride?

It's anyone's guess what could have happened next. But as this video shows, it seems that the bond between parent and child is unbreakable no matter the circumstances.

A tourist with a camera watches on in the background as Zuri tries to play with Moto. She playfully swats at him and tries to climb on his mane, as if they're two playmates horsing around in the schoolyard. Moto gently pushes her away, but Zuri is resilient. She keeps sniffing him as if she's sure that she's met this lion before.

Then she tries to scent mark him, just like a house cat would do with their favorite human. At this point, he stands still and lets it happen. It's doubtful that Moto would allow this to occur if Zuri was anyone but his own daughter; a majestic lion has a reputation to keep up, after all!

She continues to rub her face against him. They playfully swat at each other, and she goes to join her mother, making adorable little noises along the way. As she rubs her face against her mother's, Moto suddenly decides that it's time to see what's going on. He nudges her with his nose. Zuri tackles his face as if she's trying to wrap him in a big hug.

Moto stands over the pair of lions while Zuri affectionately touches noses with her mother. He tries to engage her in play, but this time Zuri's the one who swats him away. She goes behind a rock at the edge of the camera, where another lioness starts to groom her. It's clear that this cub is popular and well-loved, and seems to have a great life ahead of her.

All lions are beautiful, but white lions are even more so. And while lions might express their love a little differently than humans, that doesn't make their affection any less powerful. Zuri is lucky to have such a loving father, and he's sure to be a role model for her as she gets older. Clearly, this is one bond that no amount of time and space can sever.
