It’s a terrible thing to have someone you love brutally killed while you can do nothing but watch. Most people never have to endure such a thing, but, unfortunately, some people do. Such a trauma is very difficult for adults, but it’s even more so for children.

This is exactly what happened to a nine-year-old boy in Clayton County, Georgia. However, despite the magnitude of this tragedy, the boy was not deterred from seeking justice.

According to reports from the Clayton County Sherriff’s office, the Lake City police received a call from the Rainwood Apartments about a woman who had been shot several times while her young son was nearby to witness it.

The boy knew the name of the shooter and related the events that took place. The killer’s name was Darius Deandre Evans. He shot the boy’s mother after an argument and then left. After a moment, he returned and shot her again to make sure she would not survive. The woman, Lyonna Hodo, was taken to Southern Regional Hospital, but she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The boy, Justin, was aware of the fact that his mother had been shot many times, but in spite of this painful situation, he bravely offered to help the police track down his mother’s murderer. He clearly expressed his desire that the man should be caught. He then rode with the police and showed them where he believed the killer may be hiding.

This, apparently, was the key information the police needed to successfully track down the killer. The manhunt for Evans lasted only a few hours. He was taken to jail and is expected to be given the maximum penalties for the brutal slaying.

The slain woman’s aunt recently expressed her remorse over losing Lyonna. She explained that she had recently lost her brother, so this murder makes the tragedy even more unbearable. She has asked people on Facebook to keep Justin and his mother in their prayers. She also was perplexed about how some people could so callously take another person’s life.

There is currently a GoFundMe page that is accepting donations to help pay for Mrs. Hodo’s funeral and to help Justin. The fundraiser page describes Lyonna as a mother who was devoted to raising her son and points out that her death should not be overlooked. The page also recognizes how brave the boy was for helping the police catch the murderer.
