Diana, Princess of Wales, was universally loved by not only the British public but by people the world over. Born on July 1, 1961, Diana was the fourth of five children. Unfortunately, Princess Diana's life was taken too soon as she passed away from a car crash at the young age of 36. Throughout her life and royal service, she used her influence to enact good, spending much of her time campaigning for humanitarian causes that improved the lives of others. She sat with people who were ill, helping to break the stigma of then-new diseases HIV and AIDS. These are the reasons she became known as the "People's Princess," — she was a shining beacon of light in the royal family.

Princess Diana was married to Prince Charles on July 29, 1981. However, their marriage eventually had too many strains to continue. Prince Charles was 12 years older than Princess Diana, and eventually, an extramarital affair began. When the cracks in the couple's relationship became too public and painful to bear, the couple divorced in 1996. Princess Diana passed away in a car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997 — just one year after her divorce.

JFK Jr. was born on November 25, 1960, to the famous president John F. Kennedy and first lady Jacqueline Kennedy. JFK Jr. went on to become a journalist and lawyer and even did a bit of acting. Eventually, his popularity allowed him to publish 'George' magazine, which would later serve as the basis on which he would meet Princess Diana. Unfortunately, JFK Jr. lost his life at a young age, just like Princess Diana. JFK Jr. died in a plane crash after his plane was reported missing in 1999 in the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Martha's VineyardMassachusetts

According to PEOPLE, their meeting was arranged because JFK Jr. wanted Princess Diana to pose for his magazine, 'George.' The British royalty's People's Princess and American 'royalty' JFK Jr. agreed to meet one summer day in a suite at the Carlyle Hotel in Upper East Side, New York. However, with both people involved being such high-profile figures, one can only imagine how the two were able to meet in New York City undetected. J.F.K., Jr.'s executive assistant RoseMarie Terenzio spoke to Vogue in 2017 to explain just how the two were able to meet incognito. However, JFK Jr. was already aware of the risk; Terenzio said:

"I remember him saying, 'There's no way someone is not going to leak it. There's going to be paparazzi everywhere.' Someone suggested he go in disguise and I said, 'That's ridiculous. You're not doing that!'"

Instead of opting for disguises, they ended up settling on the most obvious option: walking in the front door. Because this option was almost too obvious for guests of such high importance, the paparazzi were waiting at the side door instead of the front door, so the two were able to walk right in undetected.

Although Princess Diana and JFK Jr. met for an hour and a half, she did not end up posing for 'George' magazine. Terenzio recollected on the historic encounter, as she said:

"I do remember him saying, 'She's really tall!' He also said she was very shy. He was surprised how demure she was. I think they had both met Mother Theresa so they spoke about that. And he said how lovely she was."

According to Vogue, 'George's' former creative director, Matt Berman, remembered JFK Jr. commenting on Princess Diana's appearance as he said, "She's got a great pair of legs."
