Apricot Lane Farms seems like your typical farm, but there is a hidden secret. This Californian farm has an unbelievably unique rooster. Known as Poodle Roo, this rooster spends his time in the open fields instead of the secure coop.

The Mystery of Poodle Roo

Each night, Poodle Roo would find a way to escape from the chicken coop. In the morning, the farmers had to search around for the lonely rooster. Even when they made the chicken coop more secure, the rooster still managed to escape.

While roosters are supposed to protect the hens, they are still vulnerable to predators. Like hens, roosters come inside the coop at night to avoid raccoons, foxes and cats. The farmers at the Apricot Lane Farms were puzzled and anxious over the rooster's behavior.

If he continued to escape, a predator would end up eating him.

The Heartbreaking Answer

One terrible night, the farmers finally discovered why Poodle Roo avoided the coop. When the farmers opened the coop's doors in the morning, they discovered Poodle Roo in a pool of blood. The other roosters had attacked him and left him to die.

The poor farmers were heartbroken. They had forced Poodle Roo to stay in the coop, and the rooster had nearly died. After allowing the rooster to heal, they discovered something unusual. The rooster was deaf and partially blind. Luckily, the poor rooster ended up healing quickly.

To the defenseless bird, sleeping in the field was safer than being cooped up with the other roosters. Once the farmers knew what was going on, they decided to let him live in the barn at night.

Other animals would stay in the barn when they were ill. Poodle Roo loved the other animals, so he would show them his secret spots for dropped seeds and food scraps. As you can see in the adorable video, Poodle Roo even made friends with a barn cat.

Now, people everywhere are falling in love with Poodle Roo's plucky spirit and loving heart.
