Amir Adan was only 19-years-old, but he knew that he would soon be blind.

He also knew that the only way to stop his eyesight from vanishing completely was to go in for a newly approved surgery. However, his health insurance would not cover the cost of the expensive procedure.

But when the company he worked for heard of his plight, they knew they had to help him out.

The young man had been diagnosed with keratoconus, a progressive eye condition, when he was still in high school. This is the condition in which the cornea of a person’s eye thins and then bulges into a cone shape. It gives the person blurry vision and makes them sensitive to light. As this condition worsens, a cornea transplant is often a necessity.

Adan’s vision impairment had gotten worse since he had first been diagnosed. He knew that it was important to get the surgery as soon as possible. However, it is a surgery that has to be done quickly, before the eye becomes too damaged. While his right eye had already went past that point, he still had hope for his left one.

He talked to a co-worker about his dilemma. Afterward, he heard the best news he had ever heard in his life- the company he worked for was offering to pay for the surgery.

That company was Bobby & Steve’s Auto World. Adan had been with them for two years at that point, and he felt as if his co-workers were family.

After talking to the co-worker, Adan left for the day, only to receive a call to come back in. When he came back, one of the co-founders, Bobby Williams, told him that they had to get him the help that he needed.

On October 24th, 2018, Adan underwent the surgery, which went “flawlessly.” His company covered the $3,400 bill. He then went home to rest comfortably before heading back to work.

Adan is extremely thankful that his company provided him the means to get the surgery. He knew that going blind would have hindered him greatly. Now, he says, he is able to get back to what he really loves to do.
