Missouri has experienced terrible weather this year. The water levels from flooding are nearing the levels of the record set by The Great Flood of 1993, reports Weather.com. Many locals have been forced to evacuate their homes in search of higher grounds.

Water ended up breaching a levee close to Levasy, Missouri just this Saturday according to KMBC. The town then began to evacuate before another breach could occur. The water ended up engulfing buildings, roads, and agriculture. Many homeowners barely had time to leave before the water flooded their homes.

Access to Levasy is denied for anyone who isn’t a resident. Most of the small town is covered in floodwater. Glen Diekmann talked to KSHB about his crops. He said that the corn was under a foot of water. The flooding has been genuinely heartbreaking for residents who are losing so much. However, other communities and areas have been doing what they can to help out. The First United Methodist Church has opened up their doors to provide shelter for anyone who needs it. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is working overtime to help rescue those who are in trouble.

One amazing video is quickly going viral. A Good Samaritan was caught on video helping a horse that had been caught up in the floodwaters. You can see in the video that the horse had gotten caught in the water and could barely stay afloat. His head is barely peeking over the water as he fights for his very life. The nearby man swam out to get the horse, despite the obvious danger to his own self. He was able to grab the horse by the reins and maneuver him to more solid ground.

It was amazing to see such a wonderful video that reminds us that there is always acts of human compassion during natural disasters. Residents of Missouri were warmed to witness such a selfless act of heroism. With floodwaters continuing to rise, no one really knows when they will be able to return to their homes.
