Weston Cage’s Mother Blames Nicolas Cage For Their Son’s Destructive Emotional Issues

Nicolas Cage of “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” fame is expecting a baby with his fifth wife, Riko Shibata. The exciting announcement was made just one day before Nicolas's 58th birthday on Jan. 7, 2022.

Shibata, whom Nicolas met in Japan through mutual friends, married the movie star in Las Vegas on Feb. 16, 2021 — a date Nicolas chose to honor his late father’s birthday. Nicolas, 58, already has two sons from previous relationships: 16-year-old Kal-El and 31-year-old Weston.

It might be hard for fans to keep up with the “Pig” actor’s love life, especially since the 58-year-old just tied the knot in 2021. Nicolas met Shibata, 27, while the actor was filming “Prisoners of the Ghostland,” a horror Western set and filmed in Japan.

Nicolas’s relationship with Shibata comes after the star’s marriage to Erika Koike, whom he was married to in 2019 for just four days. The couple, who had been dating since 2018, married in secret in Las Vegas on March 23, 2019. On March 27, Nicolas applied for an annulment, explaining that he had been intoxicated at the time.

The actor’s eldest son, Weston, has followed in his dad’s footsteps and has been working as an actor since 2005 when he appeared in “Lord of War” alongside his father. In 2018, Weston got married to Hila Aronian. He has two children, making Nicolas a grandfather. 

Weston has also been through some challenges. In 2016, he was hospitalized for a mental health break, then in 2020, he tried to file a restraining order against his mother. Keep reading to learn more about Weston and his relationship with his parents. 

Nicolas’s previous marriages weren’t all so short-lived. In 1995, the actress Patricia Arquette proposed to Nicolas “dressed head to toe in black vinyl, carrying a big purple wedding cake.” Despite the clear passion in that relationship, the off-and-on couple divorced after six years in 2001. There are rumors that the couple split just nine months after marriage, only to officially divorce years later. But Arquette has denied those claims.

It didn’t take long for Nicolas to tie the knot again — this time marrying Lisa Marie Presley. But again, the relationship was short-lived, as the couple divorced two years later in 2004. Nicolas has spoken openly about these first marriages, though he told The Guardian that he doesn’t think his first two marriages “belong on (his) record.”

His third marriage to Alice Kim, which lasted between 2004 and 2016, was the star’s longest marriage to date. According to The Guardian, Nicolas met Alice, who was working as a waitress, when she was 19 and he was 39.

That age gap is even larger between Nicolas and his current wife, who is 31 years his junior. 

The movie star announced his engagement to Shibata on his brother Marc Coppola’s radio show in 2020, according to The Sun.

The pair made their red carpet debut for Nicolas’s most recent film, “Pig.” And given that Nicolas shows no signs of slowing down — he’s slated to appear in four movies in 2022 — he’s sure to have a lot on his plate with his new wife and child. But as we’ve seen, this isn’t the actor’s first time around the block. Nicolas has two sons, Kal-El, whom he had with Kim, and Weston, whom he had with the model Christina Fulton.

In July 2020, Weston tried to file a restraining order against his mother, claiming that she was abusive and a danger to him and his family. According to Newswires, he made far-reaching allegations, and then on August 27th, 2020, Judge Marilyn Mordetzky at the Van Nuys Courthouse in Los Angeles County decided to dismiss the restraining order request.

Fulton’s lawyer, Jason Coker, said in a statement: "There was an extensive amount of evidence to refute all the outrageous unfounded accusations. These accusations towards my client Christina Fulton were defamatory and simply untrue. Christina Fulton has had to deal with an enormous amount of stress and anguish. Weston’s mother is a loving, caring, and devoted mother."

As a mom, Fulton says she just wants what is best for her son. She also issued a statement, which said: "I’m hurt and shocked, I’ve always championed my son, Weston Cage Coppola. He has had an ongoing issue with mental illness, substance, and alcohol abuse. I wish him nothing but healing recovery."

This legal action from Weston comes after an incident in 2016 when he was involved in a violent altercation with his personal trainer and taken to the hospital. Fox News reports that Weston “freaked out” at a restaurant when his trainer told him he could not eat something. Fulton blames the behavior on Nicolas. She said, "My son is in trouble, he's in the hospital right now and he's under some really good care so that makes me very happy, but I'm pretty (angry) because his father, um, he's affected by his father and that's why he's in that hospital."

Weston seems to be doing better since his 2020 attempt to file a restraining order and we are wishing him all the best.
