Wedding DJ Captures Mom ‘Living Her Best Life’ With Baby on the Dance Floor

Anyone who has attended a wedding knows the dance floor is where memories are made. But even after nearly 20 years and more than 1,200 weddings, DJ Scott Vasquez says one reception gave him a moment he will not forget.

“I have seen it many times: a baby in a carrier, being carried or in a stroller. I do not recall anyone ever dancing like that while holding a baby or having one in a carrier while dancing,” Vasquez, 43, tells PEOPLE exclusively.

That night, the celebration for Lynette and Francisco Diaz was already in full swing. Guests were energized, music filled the room, and the dance floor stayed packed. But one guest stood out.

“When Audri Kamayatsu hit the dance floor with the baby strapped in, I already knew it was going down,” Vasquez says.

Kamayatsu, 38, was not casually swaying in the corner. She was fully in it. “She was on the dance floor, it seemed like the entire time,” Vasquez recalls. Even when she stepped away, she stayed near the DJ booth with her husband, smiling, checking on her children, and returning to dance whenever the beat pulled her back.

Her 1-year-old daughter had been awake earlier in the evening, even toddling around after learning to walk. “She was awake up until maybe 30 minutes before that video was taken!” Kamayatsu tells PEOPLE.

Like many moms, she came prepared. She brought her baby harness because she “usually just takes it everywhere” since “it’s so practical and she sleeps most comfortably snuggled close to me.”

When the hip-hop and reggaeton beats dropped, Kamayatsu decided motherhood would not sideline her. In the now-viral TikTok video, Kamayatsu was seen dancing with her baby on the dance floor. She told PEOPLE: 

“I couldn’t miss being out on the dance floor with my best friends!”

What followed surprised even her. With her baby sleeping peacefully against her chest, she dropped low to the floor in a move that had the crowd cheering, “I did not think I would be able to drop it that low while wearing her.” She admits, “I almost didn’t make it back up, but my knees did not disappoint!” Vasquez, who captured the moment on video, says it was about more than an impressive dance move:

“What makes this memorable is a mother living her best life: dancing with the bride and friends, having a great time and simultaneously enjoying it with her baby.”

He says:

“A lot of people assume, ‘Oh, I have a baby now, so I can’t enjoy life the same way.’ Well, this shows that being a mom or parent is what you make of it.”

The clip eventually reached nearly 17 million views after Kamayatsu reposted it to her Instagram. She did not even know it had been filmed until friends began messaging the bride. For Kamayatsu, who shares content online as @themamamentality, the reaction felt meaningful. Mothers flooded the comments saying they felt seen.

“I hope it encourages people to celebrate in whatever season of life they’re in,” she says. “That night I was a mom, a best friend and someone who loves to dance… all at once. You don’t always have to choose just one version of yourself!”
