We Might Not Always End Up With The Loves Of Our Lives, But That´s Ok

I do believe that there is one big love for us all. But I often date and talk as if I don’t.

I have simple and realistic expectations when it comes to romance and love. I am not looking for someone to come and sweep me off of my feet. I even like the hookup culture to an extent, and I often enjoy living a life where monogamy isn’t the norm.

I do, however, believe in a big love, simply because I have experienced it.

I have experienced that amazing, all-consuming love. The love that you cannot believe actually exists. The kind that starts off with sparks and fire and heat before it simmers to a quiet, comfortable burn. The type of massive love that books and movies are modeled after. The kind of love that helps us learn more than we thought we ever could. The love you call “the love of your life.”

I believe that there are some lucky people that do get to meet the love of their life.

When you are with them, you learn from them and allow them to influence you in good, decent ways. You experience something that cannot always be described.

However, you may get to meet the love of your life, but you may not always get to hold onto them.

You won’t always get to marry them in a fairy-tale wedding. You won’t always pass the years next to each other. You won’t always hold hands in your senior years, together on your deathbed, after living an amazing life together.

The reason that we don’t always get to hold onto our perfect person is that love does not conquer all in the real world.

It can’t triumph when there is an illness or disease in the way. It won’t bridge the gap between intense religious rifts or save us when we are destroying ourselves.

We may not get to be with the love of our life because we want vastly different things. You may want a home on the lake with just the two of you while he wants the city life with two kids and a pet cat. You may want to explore the whole world while they are scared to leave their small town. Sometimes, your dreams just do not match up.

There are times like these where you should just let one another go. Other times, you may not have a choice in the matter.

But there is one more thing you don’t often hear when you find and lose the love of your life- just because they are gone doesn’t mean that their time with you was any less significant.

There are people who could give you more love in just a couple of years than others could give you in sixty. There are people who are able to give you more life and experience in just a single day than others could do in years. Some people come into our lives and leave such a big impact, we can never forget or replace them.

We may not end up with them, but they are still the loves of our lives.

Just because our paths went separate ways doesn’t mean they were any less significant to our lives. They changed us for the better in many ways. Do we really need to replace them? Do we have to find a better, more passionate love after they have come and gone?

The answer is no. Sometimes, we should be happy and thankful that we got to meet these people and have them in our lives.

We should be happy that we loved them and they loved us.

We should be happy that we learned from them and that our lives were made better by their presence.

Just because you had to let go of the love of your life doesn’t mean that your own life is over. You have to look at it as one of your greatest blessings. After all, there are many people who never get to meet the love of their life at all.
