We Just Found Out Robin Williams Improvised One Of The Most Hilarious Scenes In Goodwill Hunting

Robin Williams was one of the greatest comedy actors of all time, and stories about his life continue to emerge and remind us all how talented he was.

Shortly after it was released in theaters, the critically-acclaimed film “Good Will Hunting,” starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, became an instant classic. Although Affleck and Damon became big stars overnight, many people believe the performances of Robin Williams, playing the role of therapist Sean Maguire, were the high points of the movie.

In a memorable therapy scene between Will and Dr. Maguire, Will confides that he’s afraid of finding out that the girl he’s dating is not perfect. Sean responds by telling him that our idiosyncrasies and imperfections are what make us unique individuals.

In the version of the scene shown in theaters, Williams illustrates his point by telling a story about his wife farting in her sleep. He continues by describing an occasion where the noise was loud enough to startle the dog out of sleep, which causes her to wake up as well. After the story, Will and Sean begin to laugh uncontrollably. Since Damon was expecting a different, less outrageous story, his laughter was genuine.

This scene was so unexpected and hilarious that, if you pay close attention around the one-minute point, you may notice the camera shaking slightly. This is because the cameraman was taken off guard by the ad-lib and was laughing along with the actors.

The real script had Sean relate a story about his wife turning the alarm clock off while he slept at night, which caused him to be late for work. After Sean tells the story, Will is supposed to merely smile while Sean pauses for a brief moment.

After the death of Robin Williams in 2014, a public park bench in Boston became memorialized by fans. The bench was used in a scene in the movie where Sean advises Will to go out into the world and live his life.
