Kate Gosselin is known for her reality show “Jon and Kate Plus 8,” which portrayed her life raising her twin daughters, Mady and Cara, and her sextuplets Collin, Hannah, Aaden, Joel, Alexis, and Leah. The show, and Kate, were often surrounded by controversy as Kate was frequently seen yelling at her husband, Jon.

Kate was born Kate Irene Kreider on March 28, 1975, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her parents are Charlene and pastor Kenton Kreider. Coming from a large family as well, Kate was the third of five children. After high school, Kate completed a diploma program at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. She became a registered nurse and then later became a labor and delivery nurse at a hospital in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania.

Jon and Kate met in 1997 and were married in 1999. Their twins were born on October 8, 2000. The sextuplets were born on May 10, 2004, in Hershey, Pennsylvania, at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center. It was following the birth of the six babies that the family began appearing on television.

First, they appeared on the NBC reality TV show “Home Delivery,” which centered on the family home being renovated to accommodate the eight children. The family then appeared on multiple Discovery health specials and were eventually offered a regular series called “Jon and Kate Plus 8.” The series first aired in 2007 and later became “Kate Plus 8” when the couple divorced. Since 2019, Kate has appeared on a new show called “Kate Plus Date,” which features the famous mom looking for love. However, the show has not been filmed since the pandemic in 2020. In March 2021, it was reported that Kate was selling her home in Pennsylvania and moving to North Carolina with four of her sextuplets. The twins are both in college now, and Hannah and Collin live with Jon.

There has been much controversy surrounding the custody of the sextuplets. Collin and Hannah do not get along with their mother and choose to live with their father, who got custody over the two siblings in 2018. It seems Kate does not see the two children much, especially now that she has moved out of state.

A source told HollywoodLife: “Kate picked up and moved the kids down to North Carolina to spend their junior and senior years there with a totally new life.” The insider added, “The two older girls are in no rush to go to North Carolina. They weren’t happy about the move because they have no friends there.”

Mady and Cara graduated from Lancaster Day School in 2019. The twins decided to attend different colleges after high school. “They agreed all along that they don’t want to go to the same school,” Kate told People. “Their ambitions are so different that they really felt, there’s not one college that would fully answer what each of them wanted.”

The mother of eight added, “Mady and Cara really steered the ship in terms of applying to colleges; they knew what they wanted. That same feeling is going to have to carry me through my fears now when I think about them going off on their own, fending for themselves, being alone for the first time.”

Even with her oldest kids going off to college, Kate has to deal with the complicated logistics of balancing all of her responsibilities. “Within six days, Mady has to be dropped off, Cara has to be dropped off and the little kids begin their first day of high school,” she said. “The best advice I’ve heard is not to feel too obligated to stay and stay and stay: The kids don’t really want that; it’s eventually like, you have to be the one to drive away.”

Kate added, “One thing I’m really going to miss is having them to guide their younger siblings. They’ve gotten so much closer with each passing year. I worry about how much we are all going to miss them.”

The reality star said she hopes her daughters will still make the trip to North Carolina to visit her and their younger siblings. “I don’t care if they only come home to see the dog—fine with me,” Kate says. “As long as they come home!”

The mother of eight turned 49 in 2024. Outside of starring on reality TV shows, Kate has also written three books. The first was written with Jon in 2008 and is titled “Multiple Blessings.” Her follow-up book was released in 2009 and is called “Eight Little Faces.” Her third book is titled “I Just Want You to Know” and came out in 2010.

We have not seen much from Kate since she last posted on social media in July 2020, but we wish her and all of her children the best moving forward.
