Watch This Mama Elephant “Ask” Rescuer To Sing Her Baby A Lullaby

We bet you didn’t know just how much elephants love to listen to music. They will hold trunks and sway to the beat when they hear music being played!

A major example of this is when you see a ritual that is shared between Faa Mai, an Indian elephant that was rescued, and Lek Chailert, her caretaker.

When Faa Mai was just a young calf she was rescued and taken to the Elephant Nature Park, located in northern Thailand. Lek is the founder of the park.

Lek has sung the now nine-year-old elephant lullabies ever since she was a calf in order to calm her down and help her sleep.

Baby Thong Ae was rescued recently and Faa Mai immediately fell in love with the baby. She wants to make sure she gets the same treatment!

As Lek and Faa Mai walked along, it looked as though the elephant was just trying to play. However, as she kept prodding the caretaking over and over, Lek felt she should allow her to lead her where she wanted to go.

The founder of the park even admitted on Facebook that she didn’t know what the giant elephant was trying to push her towards! But it didn’t take her too long to figure it out.

Just a little bit later, Lek came across Thong Ae. Faa Mai then waited and stared expectantly at Lek, waiting on her to sing.

When she saw the small elephant, Lek knew what the older elephant wanted.

Lek could tell that Faa Mai just wanted her to sing to her young friend. She loved the lullabies when she was younger and wanted to share them.

Lek started to sing her lullaby to Thong Ae. As she did, Faa Mai started to cozy up to the baby, showing a maternal instinct towards the young calf. Lek commented that the older elephant wanted to adopt the baby as her own.

It was the love of a mother, even when the baby wasn’t hers, to make Faa Mai find Lek and push her to sing the baby to sleep.

It took just a few minutes for the baby to fall asleep to the gentle lullaby. Faa Mai had the right idea all along!
