High School graduation is always a special time for teenagers. But it was extra special for one Michigan teen who received the graduation surprise of a lifetime.

Micah Schieber has spent much of his life honoring the memory of his late father, Chad Schieber. Schieber passed away in 2007 after experiencing health problems during the Chicago Marathon. He was just 35 years old and was a member of the Midland Police Department in Michigan

Micah was a mere 6 years old when his father passed, and he often searched for opportunities to honor him. So as his graduation party drew near, he asked his mom if it would be okay to invite his father’s police department.

“I know that (my dad’s) brothers and sisters in blue are a big part of my family,” Micah told the Midland Daily News. “So just being able to have that part of my dad at my party was something I really wanted to happen.

Micah’s mom sent an email to the department where her husband worked for 14 years, and the response was overwhelming. On the date of the graduation party, 18 officers pulled up in their patrol cars, dressed in their uniforms.

But the officers didn’t just show up. They came bearing gifts. The department gave Micah $111 in recognition of his father’s badge number. It was a special gift as the teen had just gotten a tattoo of his father’s badge on his arm.

"My heart just swelled with joy and appreciation that [the officers] would care enough about Micah to do this for a kid that they don't even know," Micah's mother said.

A touching video on YouTube shows Micah thanking the officers with gift bags. He says he’s always wanted to be in the automotive aftermarket management industry, but now he’s thinking a career law enforcement could be a better option.
