Washington Resident Had To Cut Down Her Favorite Tree In Her Yard But Wood Carver Transforms It Into Library

Sara, a resident of Everett, Washington, bought her home because of the majestic 110-year-old, 20-foot-tall cedar tree in the yard. However, over some years, it had deteriorated and become a hazard. The city insisted that it be removed.

Fortunately, Larry Carter, a local woodcarver known for his amazing wooden masterpieces, learned of her dilemma and offered to do the job.

He didn't even charge her for all the work involved and only asked that he be given any excess wood to make his carving, as the HeraldNet reported.

Even though Larry told KOMO News 4 in the video below he had never used a chainsaw in his woodcarving, he tackled the job with determination because he saw real value in being able to create Sara's dream of a “community library” that she had wanted for years.

It would enable neighbors to come and take books for themselves and their family members to read and leave books for others to share. That resulted in a welcome and ongoing success with a wide variety of reading material and allows Sara not to miss her favorite tree as much as she originally did.

What did the remainder of the wood turn into? Larry told the news channel he was able to make approximately 50 carvings of mostly animals out of Sara's cedar for the Evergreen State Fair. Among other things, he created blue heron, fish, dogs, bears, and flowers.
