Doing the right thing can often be difficult. While people rarely act with malicious intent, sometimes it’s just easier to forget morals and ethics and do whatever makes your life easier without regard for how it will affect someone else.

When people do the right thing, it is important to hold them up as a good example and applaud them for their good work. A waitress from Portland, Maine is one such person.

According to the Inside Edition, Kaylie Cyr is a waitress at Buffalo Wild Wings. One day, as she was wrapping up her shift, Kaylie noticed a strange envelope in one of her booths. Examining the envelope more closely, Kaylie found that the envelope contained a huge amount of cash, $1,700 in $100 bills to be exact.

While Kaylie had heard of waitresses getting astounding tips, she quickly realized that this was not the case. The customer had given her a generous tip earlier and it was clear that the envelope of money was left there accidentally.

For Kaylie, there was no choice in the matter: she gave the money to her manager in the hopes that the customer would return for it at a later date. While many others in such a situation would have kept the money to buy everyday necessities or even go on a spending spree, Kaylie knew that she had to do the right thing and try to return the money to its rightful owner.

Kaylie’s manager put the envelope in the restaurant’s safe for the night. The next day, Glenn Morse, the owner of the envelope returned and picked up the missing money.

According to the ABC news, Glenn is a regular at the restaurant and was astounded that Kaylie was so humble. Glenn noted that Kaylie did not seek any recognition or reward for her act of goodness, she just wanted to do the right thing. Nevertheless, Glenn rewarded Kaylie for helping him retrieve his money with a crisp $100 bill.

What do you think of Kaylie’s actions in giving Glenn back his money? What would you do if you ever found a large sum of money in a public place? Tell us in the comments and pass this hopeful story on to your friends and loved ones.
