Waiter Defends Child With Special Needs After Diner Makes Rude Comment

It seemed like a normal Wednesday evening. Kim Castillo and her family decided to go out for a nice dinner at a local restaurant called Laurenzo's. Her son, Milo, was just five years old. Milo has Down syndrome, and he was a favorite with all of the waiters. Whenever Milo came into the restaurant, the waiters would always stop to talk to him.

Unfortunately, this normal evening was about to take a terrible turn. The family had just been seated at the booth when another family was seated nearby. As the other family moved the tables around, the waiter, Michael Garcia, heard a nasty comment.

One member of the other family saw Milo and said, “Special needs children need to be special somewhere else.”

Michael immediately approached the family and told them that he refused to serve them. They said that they would leave, and Michael told them that they should. He did not want to wait on anyone who could be so cruel and insensitive.

While Kim Castillo was a regular at the restaurant, she never expected the servers to do such a courageous, kind thing. She had been standing up for Milo for years, and she never expected that someone else would confront a bully as well.

When she realized what had happened, she was unbelievably grateful.

The heart-wrenching video shows the tale of what happened. While Michael expected to get reprimanded or fired by his boss, it turns out that he got the opposite reaction. His exceptional deed was admired by his friends, other patrons, his family and his boss. The Laurenzo family owns the restaurant, and they completely supported his decision.

Michael stood up for a child who could not defend himself. Instead of getting fired, he deserves a promotion.
