'Voice' Star Challenged With Singing Blake Shelton's Old-School Hit

Gyth Rigdon is gaining lots of attention these days as a contestant on Season 16 of The Voice. Rigdon, who’s on Blake Shelton’s team, advanced to the top 13 contestants following the cross battles that featured a total of 24 artists. Performance after performance, Rigdon brought his A-game and is made a huge impression on both the coaches and America.
Rigdon was already viewed as one of the biggest threats among the contestants, but he challenged himself to do more. During a cross battles performance, he covered his own coach’s song, “Goodbye Time.” Many stated it was one of his best performances of the season.

“Goodbye Time” was originally recorded by Conway Twitty. Shelton’s version was featured on his 2004 album "Blake Shelton’s Barn and Grill."
You can watch Gyth's interpretation of the song below:
Rigdon went in a different direction during the first week of the live shows. He stepped away from his coach’s musical library and performed a song from the country group Shenandoah. But it didn’t take him long to return to another Shelton hit, and it was all thanks to the fans.
For his next performance, America was able to pick his song. They chose “Nobody But Me” from the same Shelton album. The song was a big hit for his coach, peaking at number four on the U.S. Hot Country Songs chart. So Rigdon knew he had to deliver.
Perhaps the most impressive quality of the budding star is his ability to perform under pressure. Being a contestant on The Voice brings its own set of challenges. Singing your own coach’s song adds to that pressure. And performing it for an audience that is very familiar with the original takes that challenge to a new level.
But that pressure seemed to fuel Rigdon. The song “Nobody But Me” tells the passionate story of a man who begs his lover to stay with him. Rigdon started his performance behind a microphone playing the guitar. Just when you thought he had given it his all, the singer threw off his guitar and stepped away from the mic and into the crowd.
The audience loved it.
Rigdon belted out tunes that caught the attention of everyone in the room. But you’ve got to see it for yourself.
