Violinist Duo Perform Beautiful Version Of Hit Pop Song And The Crowd Is Amazed

When virtuoso violinist Karolina Protsenko, who is just 11 years old, plays her first striking notes and begins to twist and bounce to her own beautiful playing, everyone has to gather round and document it. In this case, her cover of "Rockabye" by Clean Bandit had an audience surrounding her on all sides, their phones ready to capture not only a short snippet for social media, but her entire performance.

Though backed by fellow violinist Kiev Morales and drummer Imani Elijah, the 11-year-old Protsenko is clearly in charge of her own performance. With surprising charisma and fluid body movements she captivates her audience for an entire cover, which is no small feat for a busker playing a popular song.

The original "Rockabye," recorded with vocalists Anne-Marie and Sean Paul, was at the top of the UK Single Charts for 9 weeks, eventually becoming the first song to be a number one Christmas song after six weeks as a chart topper, according to The Sun. Its heartfelt lyrics deal with being a single mother and the emotional tolls it can take.

That being said, Protsenko's warm, shimmering tones, supported by Morales's rich harmonies and Imani Elijah's grounded rhythms, do a justice to the emotional weight of the song that hearing it over a radio just can't provide. Her accompanying dance moves don't feel choreographed at all, but seem natural and spontaneous, and the way she rocks echoes the promise that the song makes: to move and rock its listeners.

The well-captured video that went viral had over 600,000 views and 30,000 likes before it was even up for a month. This is surely a testament to the uniqueness and skill with which Protsenko plays, and how powerful it is to witness someone so young embracing such talent. Her website states she has been playing the violin since she was 6 years old. If you want to witness even more of her talent, you can check out her YouTube channel right here!
