According to BAZAAR.com’s royal correspondent Omid Scobie, there exists “no actual protocol about dark nail polish,” and that the supposed rules were “simply about being appropriate – we’d never see this at a royal engagement.”

The media also weighed in on the look, with The UK’s Mirror noting:

“Princess Charlotte’s bright nails could be seen as her breaking from tradition, given previous speculation, though that doesn’t appear to be the case.” 

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail labeled her nail color “funky pink.”

Woman & Home’s digital beauty writer Naomi Jamieson said it was “lovely to see Princess Charlotte sporting such a bright, summery nail colour at the Wimbledon final.”

Jamieson added that the young royal appeared confident in veering from the “more traditional royal manicures we’re used to seeing” and made her mark with “quite a modern twist” on the trend.
