A video portraying a chillingly human-like robot caused quite a stir recently on social media. In the clip, what appears to be some sort of droid can be seen strolling up a driveway near a parked car.

Those viewing the video remarked on how similar its bearing and stride matched that of a human. Some wondered if it could be a person dressed up in a costume. Others speculated that it could be a computer-generated image. The robot's black eyes, white face, and agile frame looked like something right out of a Sci-Fi blockbuster movie.

Those who guessed that the robot featured in the viral video is a computer-generated image turned out to be correct. Neill Blomkamp and Oats Studios designed the character to star in a short-film series entitled "Adam."

Even though the image wasn't a real robot, Twitter users started coming unglued at the thought of robots such as the one featured in the video taking over the planet. As concerns about the robot's nature and intentions began to spread, Blomkamp decided to take action in order to alleviate any sort of anti-robot hysteria from spreading. He posted the first episode of the series on social media to reassure everyone that "Adam" wasn't really a rogue droid on the loose.

Blomkamp explained how he was able to create the image used in "Adam" with Unity, an advanced computer-generated image gaming engine. The image can be downloaded and used by other video game makers and filmmakers for future games and features. That's how the viral video clip of the robot-image featured in "Adam" walking up the driveway came to be.

Another artist, Maxim Sullivan, downloaded the image and placed it into the clip. His work was so realistic that after he posted it to Twitter on August 12, 2018, amazed Twitter users quickly passed it around to their friends.

Blomkamp explained, "'Adam' is a miniseries that 'tells the story of a human whose brain has been erased and imprisoned in a robotic shell.'"

For years humans have speculated about the possibility of a robot-led Armaggedon. Thankfully, this particular "robot" won't be leading a robot army in a war against humans anytime soon!
