Video Of Dancer Doing Ballet In The Rain Takes Internet By Storm

Earlier this month, a video uploaded by Twitter user @blacknochaser shows Anthony Mmesoma Madu, an 11-year-old Nigerian dancer, dancing ballet barefooted on concrete in the rain.

It’s not often that the arduous task of dancing ballet is given the rightful athletic credentials that it deserves. Too many people think that art is something that requires little effort and just a thin body. In reality, dancing ballet is something that keeps getting progressively more difficult as the eras move on. Even classical ballet requires a startling level of endurance that would make most critics blush.

That’s exactly what happens with a certain young man who decided to dance in the rain one day in Nigeria. What’s even more impressive is that he’s able to still perform his act on concrete!

The unforgiving medium would be a challenge no matter where it was to dance on, but the surface that he was dancing on here had plenty of uneven spots and holes. It’s quite amazing that he didn’t even stumble once on any part of it.

The video opens up with the boy preparing to perform his art. It is filled with only silence except for the pitter-patter of falling rain. Once Anthony begins to leap into the air, we know that we’re dealing with some serious talent.

After spinning several times, he’s able to twirl on bare feet in the rain without going out of control. The pirouettes are performed smoothly, and he’s able to land perfectly.

While watching his feet, there are a few times that he needs to re-adjust before the next move, but we think that anyone watching should give him a pass due to the inclement weather and rough surface, not to mention that he’s not wearing any shoes!

After his dizzying spins, the boy proceeds to leap into the air a few feet and covers a good amount of distance each time. Though we can’t say for sure we’d be able to do the same, it sure does look fun! Despite the brown and grey that surrounds him, this young boy appears to be making a go showing of life and his craft.

According to BBC, Anthony is from the Leap of Dance Academy, and he can be supported through them. There isn’t a lot of attention being paid to the African ballet scene; maybe it’s time that changed?

Have you or your friends ever danced in the rain before? Or practiced ballet? Ever thought about combining the two to see if you could compete with Anthony? We want to know your experiences!
