Video Doorbell Captured Woman Giving Birth To Son On Her Front Lawn

A mother from Vacaville, California was caught off guard when she experienced quick labor and gave birth on her front lawn. To add to the surprise, the whole event was recorded on their video doorbell camera.
Emily and Michael Johnson had no worries about going to the hospital for the birth of their second child since their house is just five minutes away. The couple even planned for Emily to get an epidural to help with the labor. They never thought of taking a video of the birth as the mom had anticipated that her second labor would be a routine process. She was also eager to go home early from the hospital after giving birth.
However, on the night of Nov. 4, 2021, her baby had other plans. The child’s birth would throw off his parents in an unexpected way. The baby's due date was not until a week later but Emily started feeling contractions 10 minutes apart. Yet the Johnsons didn't feel the need to rush to the hospital a mile or so away since this pace remained the same for three hours.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, early labor can last between six to 12 hours at home with contractions five to 15 minutes apart. However, the mom should head to the hospital once the contractions are closer than every five minutes because this means that she’s in active labor. This is when the baby is inching into the mom's birth canal and causes her water to break. When that happens, the pregnant mom will feel the urge to push the baby.

Emily told Fox News that her contractions quickly changed to two minutes apart as she and Michael were getting ready to load up the car and drive to the hospital. When Emily stepped out of their front door, her contractions were already 30 seconds apart and that's when she realized they would not be able to make the drive.
On the other hand, Michael, a former first responder, saw that his wife was not moving toward the car. He knew that they were going to have the baby right there when his wife propped herself on their front lawn.
At that exact moment, Emily's mother arrived so she could look after Blake, the couple's 3-year-old son. She immediately called 9-1-1 when she saw what has happening and then Michael listened to the dispatcher's instructions until the ambulance arrived.
Emily described the experience of giving birth on her front lawn as "bizarre" and "primal."
"I felt like a cow giving birth in a field," the mom told Fox News. "And at the same time, I was so uncomfortable. It was like, I can’t believe this is actually happening."
In a matter of minutes, the cries of Thomas, their second child, could be heard just as the EMTs arrived. Though this was not how they planned the birth, Michael said it was "very, very reassuring" to hear his baby's first cry.
Michael then realized that the video doorbell had been recording everything when he was running back and forth to their house to get some clean towels for his wife and new baby. While it caught every single moment, Emily was glad that the captures weren't too clear or detailed as it was almost 10:30 p.m.
Thankfully, she was also not facing the camera. Otherwise, she wouldn't have been able to share the video and incredible birth with the public.
