Veteran Sees Puppy In Hot Car And Breaks The Law In Order To Save Him

A lot of pet owners get angry when they hear a story about an animal being left in a hot car. A common question is: "Why can't these people just leave the dog or cat at home?" Jason Minson of Norfolk, Virginia was certainly asking himself that question when he came upon a puppy locked in a hot car back in 2019. But Minson, unlike many of us, didn't look the other way. He acted and broke the car's window in order to free the trapped dog.

Jason is a landscaper who lives and works in Virginia, as WTKR News reports.

One day while at work, Jason came across a dog who needed his help. He was inspecting a yard when he heard a small car collision in the street, according to The Dodo.

Looking back, Jason considers the commotion a blessing. If the noise he heard had not gotten his attention, he would not have discovered something extremely disturbing.

Jason approached a nearby car and found a dog inside who was struggling to find a way out of the car. The dog was obviously suffering from the heat. The panting of the dog made Jason know he needed to do something fast.

He called 911. The dispatcher told him a unit would soon arrive and instructed him not to break the window of the car. The laws governing such things vary from state to state, but it would be a crime in Virginia for the veteran to do so. The window was slightly open, so Jason shared a bottle of water with the dog.

The dog was extremely thirsty and only needed a minute or two to finish the bottle. Jason offered the dog a second one, and it was finished just as quickly.

Jason is calm in most situations, he told The Dodo, but he could feel himself losing his cool. He was already angered by finding the dog in such a dangerous situation and now the police were taking their time to get to the scene.

The dog was weakening and Jason knew the dog would perish unless something happened soon.

So Jason broke the window of the car and freed the dog. He says he has no regrets. The owner of the car was charged with endangering an animal and Jason was not charged for his actions.

The dog was brought safely to a local shelter, as WKTR News reports.
