Vet Says The Chances Of Cow's Rare Birth Happening Is One In Eleven Million

May 11, 2020 by apost team

In 2015, a farmer in Texas was shocked to discover that one of his cows had given birth to not one, not two, but FOUR calves! It is a very rare event that only occurs once in every 11.2 million births!

Surprisingly, all four calves have survived the birth process, which is even rarer given that twin calves often have trouble surviving their births. All four calves are healthy, despite their diminished size. Their mother is a longhorn cow only known to the farmer as "Fifteen."

What Makes the Birth So Extraordinary

Cows typically only give birth to a single calf. Twins occur one in every 200 births according to Beef2Live. If a farmer has ten cows and each cow gives birth twenty times, the farmer may get a single set of twin calves once. If the farmer is really lucky, both calves survive. Ergo, a set of quadruplet calves all born live and born healthy is a truly incredible event.

Nobody Can Contest That All Four Calves Belong to One Cow

The farmer that owns "Fifteen" said to KSLA that he noticed when the cow had dropped her calves in the field. There were three new calves before he spotted what had happened. He called the vet to make sure the three calves were healthy. That is when the fourth calf was born, and the vet and farmer witnessed its birth.

If anyone on the internet wants to contest the authenticity of the births of the calves to the same cow, the vet took DNA samples from "Fifteen" (the mother cow) and the four calves. The vet confirmed to USA Today that all four calves do belong to the same cow.

The Mother Cow Can't Feed Four Calves, So the Farmer Is Getting Help

Cows are not designed to feed more than two calves at any one time. Since "Fifteen" has four calves, the farmer is going to great lengths to help all four survive. Neighboring farms helped by providing extra care for the extra calves. The other farmers are also helping the elderly farmer and his wife with the around-the-clock feedings of all four calves.

All four little calves are black, two with white markings. The farmer and his wife decided to name them Eeny, Meeny, Miny, and Moo. With how cute these names and these calves are, you are bound to follow them and watch what happens as these babies grow and develop and the farmer raises them. Be sure to tell others about the little miracles.
