Vegetarian Was 'In Tears All Night' After Takeaway Restaurant Put Chicken In Her Veggie Curry

Tania Baxter had been a faithful vegetarian for more than a decade until a restaurant accidentally gave her chicken in a veggie curry. The animal rights activist had taken a bite of the meat before realizing it was chicken.

The incident began when Baxter and friends and family ordered takeaway Indian food one night from a restaurant called Melton Spice, located in her home of Melton Constable, Norfolk. As always, Tania ordered the vegetarian curry for herself. Indian dishes tend to be popular with vegetarians, as they offer many deliciously spiced dishes, yet cater to vegetarians.

As Baxter told The Mirror, her friend had reassured that the curry did not contain meat when he collected it. However, when she tucked into the curry and took a bite she was shocked and horrified to immediately realize she was eating chunks of meat. Recalling the experience Baxter said, "as soon as I took a mouthful, I knew instantly the texture in my teeth was meat, so I spat it out straight away."

To her horror, she then dug through the rest of the curry in her dish and found it to be loaded with pieces of chicken. She was extremely upset by what had happened and became even more upset by the response she received when the person who answered her call at Melton Spice.

"There was no remorse, no apology. He said to me three times 'come back and I'll make you another curry', but that wasn't the point. The whole experience was completely devastating and I was in tears all night," Baxter told The Mirror

Baxter said her eldest daughter went back to the restaurant to get an explanation. "They just weren't grasping how upsetting this was for someone who is against slaughter and eating animals. They just didn't seem to care."

Baxter also said her younger daughter was very upset by the incident as well. "My 12-year-old daughter is not a vegetarian but she was so upset, she didn't eat her own dinner."

In the future, Baxter says she will never eat curry again.

Tania wondered what would happen if someone had a serious food allergy and a restaurant messed it up. What do you think about this mix-up and the comparison to a serious food allergy? Pass this story along to anyone who may be a vegetarian or would find this story of interest.
